Explore the area, from stunning terrain and diverse wildlife to historic harbors and the beauty of Acadia National Park.
Take the park loop to experience the biggest attractions in the park, including Cadillac Mountain (by reservations), Jordan Pond, Otter Cove, Thunder Hole on Ocean Drive, Sand Beach, and Otter Cliffs.
Jesup Path is a spectacular walk at the foot of the mountains and through the enchanting undergrowth of the trees. You can access it from the park road. It is an easy walk and you can walk the loop which would take about an hour, or you can go to the end of the walking bridge and turn around in about 30-35 minutes.
Meander down to Northeast Harbor for a late lunch at a historic inn with sweeping views of the harbor. Be sure to save time to visit the Azalea Gardens across the street. They are serene and beautiful, a must-see.
From there, take the scenic drive around Sommes Sound to Bass Harbor to visit the historic and picturesque Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse.
A short drive from the lighthouse is a favorite trail on the island - Ship Harbor Trail in South West Harbor. This trail is more moderate in difficulty, as there are some curves and roots and it takes you out to the rocky coastline and back around. It is not uphill, so very doable in about an hour with stopping for pictures and taking in the beautiful views.
After a full day of exploring, you can head back to Bar Harbor for dinner at an authentic Maine Lobster Pound, a four-diamond restaurant, or anything in between.
