Weather

Summer is the most popular time to visit Jackson Hole. Average high temperatures in the high 70s and low 80s and fairly low precipitation levels make for ideal hiking, biking and rafting conditions. Plus, both Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park are fully open, offering great daytrip opportunities.

Dress in Layers

  • Morning and evenings are cool, while the days start to warm up. Dressing in layers is a great way to handle some of the longer tours without having to make a wardrobe change. Start with a pair of shorts and a t-shirt, and layer longer sleeves over them in the morning and evenings.

Day 1: Arrival in Jackson Hole

Summer in Jackson Hole, Wyoming is positively idyllic. The weather is perfect. Colorful wildflowers are in bloom. Babbling creeks and rivers run through the valley. Wildlife roams freely. And everywhere you look you are surrounded by the picture-perfect Teton Mountains that seem to jut straight up out of the valley floor.

Day 2: Scenic Float and Fly Fishing

Enjoy as much time as you need out on the beautiful Snake River, casting for trout or just enjoying the view.

9 AM | Fly Fishing and Float Trip

The Snake River is one of the most cherished streams in the world of fly fishing. Enjoy some time floating and casting within Grand Teton National Park, Bridger-Teton National Forest, and parcels under the authority of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). These are considered amongst the most beautiful sections of the river on which we guide, with majestic views of the Teton Range, the Gros Ventre Range, and Snake River Canyon.

  • Please bring adequate clothing for the predicted weather prior to arrival. Light and airy clothes work best most days in summer. Being prepared for inclement weather is a must, as Wyoming weather can change from sunny to downpour in a matter of minutes.
  • Sunglasses are a necessity for each participant to protect your eyes from flying hooks. Protecting your skin with sunscreen is also recommended for a day on the river. Wide-brimmed hats or visors do a great job of blocking the sun.
  • Beverages, snacks, and lunch are provided for guests. Guests are welcome to bring snacks, phones, cameras, etc.
  • Alcohol is not permitted on our trips. If a guest arrives under the influence we may revoke their trip with no refund.

Enjoy a private evening tour where a large telescope will be set up to show you the night skies of Jackson Hole. Throughout the night, planets, stars, nebulae, galaxies, and more will be shown. You’ll receive individualized attention from knowledgeable and enthusiastic Stargazing Leaders to answer your questions about the Cosmos.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • During the summer, nighttime temperatures can drop below 40°F! Please wear long pants, a warm jacket, close-toed shoes with thick socks, and a hat. In the winter, temperatures will be well below freezing. Dress warmly, as if you were going skiing on a cold day.

  • Most telescopes require using a ladder to reach the eyepiece. Contact the organizers if anyone in your party cannot use a ladder, so a suitable telescope can be provided (Private Programs only).


Program itinerary

  • Hotel pick-ups are between 8:30pm and 9:30pm in June; the exact time will be communicated on the day of the tour.
  • 30-45 minute drive to a dark location in Grand Teton National Park.
  • Explore the sky using the StarWalk app on iPads while the telescope is set up.
  • View deep space objects through the telescope for about 2 hours.
  • Warm up in the van while equipment is packed up.
  • 30-45 minute drive back to your hotel.

Day 3: Grand Teton National Park and Jackson's Historic Barns

Today, explore the stunning Grand Teton National Park, enjoying scenic drives and stopping at some historic sites.

Grand Teton National Park

Located just north of Jackson, Wyoming, Grand Teton has a diverse and long-standing history that includes human use from more than 11,000 years ago. Nomadic groups, Indigenous tribes, early explorers and settlers once called this national park home. Today, you can explore the park’s extensive history and culture through ranger-led programs, visitor centers and historical points of interest like Mormon Row and the Moulton Barns. In addition to a fascinating history, Grand Teton’s stunning landscapes and diverse wildlife provide the perfect location for nature lovers and outdoor adventurers.

Mormon Row

Mormon Row, formerly known as the town of Grovont, was settled in the late 1890s by settlers from the Salt Lake region. It now stands as a famous tourist attraction with beautiful barns and buildings built in the late 1800s with a stunning backdrop of the Grand Teton peaks.

Drive time from Jackson to Mormon Row: 30 minutes

Enjoy some time in the small town of Moose and find a great lunch option. A local favorite is the Dornan Spur Bar.

Hidden Falls & Inspiration Point

The hike to Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point is one of the most popular outings in Grand Teton National Park. The journey starts with a boat ride across beautiful Jenny Lake, accompanied by great views of the high peaks towering above the west side of the lake. In short order the trail ascends to Hidden Falls, a thundering cascade dropping 200-ft. down a series of rocky ledges, and then climbs to Inspiration Point with fine views of the lake and the Gros Ventre Mountains to the east.
