Day 3: The Borough of Brooklyn
🍕
Brooklyn Pizza Tour

Head to Brooklyn for a self-guided pizza tour designed by scenset! Which spot will be your favorite? Paulie Gee's? Joe's? Baby Luc's?!

We've got a few amazing spots and former haunts of our once Brooklyn-based Travel Curators. Just so you don't fill up too quickly, we recommend no more than a slice or two at each stop. Feel free to walk around and explore the neighborhoods as well!

Don't forget to take photos and let scenset know what you think!

No reservations have been made as these establishments are walk-in only. All pizza is to be paid for directly. Slices are available at each shop except for Juliana's.

👣
The Route
  1. Greenpoint: Paulie Gee's Slice Shop, Transmitter Park, and Three's Brewing
Greenpoint

Brooklyn's Greenpoint neighborhood is a vibrant and eclectic enclave that boasts a rich history, stunning waterfront views, and an array of trendy bars, restaurants, and shops. A formerly industrial area, Greenpoint has been transformed into a hub of artistic creativity and urban charm, with its tree-lined streets, vintage architecture, and a bustling community. Visitors can stroll through McCarren Park, catch a concert at Brooklyn Steel, or sample some of the best pierogies and kielbasa in the city.

🍕
Paulie Gee's Slice Shop

Start off with the Crown Prince (and we don't mean Prince Street Pizza!) of pizza in Greenpoint: Paulie Gee's! You're not going to find a more classic New York-style slice than this and the retro interiors definitely add to the ambiance.

As someone who used to frequent this shop often, take it from me when I say the best thing to do is grab a few Hellboy slices and go eat them at Transmitter Park. You're welcome!

Address: 110 Franklin Street, Brooklyn, NY 11222
Subway Stop: Greenpoint Ave (G Train)
Hours:

  • Sun–Thu: 11:30am–10pm
  • Fri & Sat: 11:30am–11pm

Origin Insider Tip!

Needing to wash down those first few slices? Stop by Threes Brewing for a pint before hitting up the next spot! It's just two blocks down from Transmitter Park!

Address: 113 Franklin St, Brooklyn, NY 11222

🍕
Joe's Pizza

It's time for the Battle of Williamsburg! Your first stop is the popular Joe's Pizza. The proprietor of Joe's Pizza hails from Naples and brought his city's creation to NYC back in 1975 and has opened a few locations around the city since then.

It's not uncommon to see a line here or at least a few patrons who couldn't wait after a few steps out the front door to enjoy their slice. Joe's is open late and a favorite among locals after a night out.

Address: 216 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11249
Subway Stop: Bedford Ave (L Train)
Hours:

  • Sun–Thu: 10:30am–3am
  • Fri & Sat: 10:30am–5am

Joe's is a 20-minute walk (1.0 mile) from another pizzeria. It's a nice stroll that takes you through McCarren Park, but feel free to save the legs and grab an Uber or CitiBike if you prefer!

Williamsburg

Known for its thriving arts scene, boutique shopping, and diverse dining options, Williamsburg is a haven for creative types and foodies alike. Visitors can explore the neighborhood's many galleries and street murals, catch a show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, or indulge in artisanal treats at the Brooklyn Flea Market. With its laid-back vibe and bohemian flair, Williamsburg offers a unique glimpse into the creative spirit of Brooklyn.

Best Pizza

The contender in this Battle for Williamsburg is brimming with confidence. It's Best Pizza.

Best Pizza was a relative newcomer to the pizza scenset in Brooklyn, opening its doors in 2010. Since then, it has backed up its name with absolutely delicious pies.

Hours:

  • Sun–Thu: Morning to Night
  • Fri & Sat: Morning to Night

Best Pizza is just a 7-minute walk from Joe's. Just head against traffic on 6th St and make a left on Havemeyer. You'll see it!

Carroll Gardens
Iconic Brownstones of Carroll Gardens
Iconic Brownstones of Carroll Gardens

Brooklyn's Carroll Gardens neighborhood is a charming and picturesque enclave that exudes old-world charm and small-town appeal. Known for its elegant brownstones, lush green spaces, and quaint boutiques and eateries, Carroll Gardens is a peaceful oasis in the heart of bustling Brooklyn. Visitors can stroll along the tree-lined streets, take in the historic architecture, and enjoy a leisurely meal at one of the neighborhood's many cozy cafes or bistros. Carroll Gardens is a hidden gem among Brooklyn's neighborhoods that offers a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of city life.

🍕
Baby Luc's

If you mention Lucali to a pizza lover in Brooklyn, they'll probably start going on about the best strategy for waiting in line to secure a table or how you really need to be ordering the calzone or how a certain celebrity put them on the map... in any case, there's a ton of hype and we don't have all day to stand in line! Plus, you gotta try a square slice before you leave Brooklyn... and that's why we're heading to Baby Luc's.

With the success of Lucali, Baby Luc's was born in 2021 just down the street featuring some of the best square pizza's since L&B Spumoni Gardens. Look out for their pies sitting on the window sill. You'll be sure to smell them before you see them!

It could be a great last stop on this pizza tour... but we know you've got room for one more!

Address: 387 Court St, Brooklyn, NY 11231
Subway Stop: Carroll St (F & G Trains)
Hours:

  • Daily: 12pm - 10pm

This isn't one to walk to. A ride-sharing service is going to be your best bet as it's a 15-minute drive from Williamsburg or you can experience the NYC Subway and hop on the G-train from Metropolitan Av in the Church Av direction. The train ride is about 30 minutes and takes you down to the Carroll St stop.

Coffee Break?

You may be needing a coffee at this point.

Want to try one of those hipster Brooklyn coffee joints you always hear about? Our recommendations near Baby Luc's would be either Nili (0.1 miles away) or Brooklyn Habit (0.2 miles away).

DUMBO
The Manhattan Bridge from an alleyway in DUMBO
The Manhattan Bridge from an alleyway in DUMBO

Brooklyn's DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) neighborhood is a dynamic and thriving community that has undergone a dramatic transformation in recent years. Once a gritty industrial area, DUMBO has been revitalized into a hip and trendy destination, with its cobblestone streets, stunning waterfront views, and trendy shops and eateries. Visitors can take a stroll along the Brooklyn Bridge Park, admire the breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline, and explore the neighborhood's many art galleries and design studios.

🍕
Juliana's

As a finale, we recommend going to visit one of the greats. We feel the favorite from the day may be elsewhere in Brooklyn, but it's important to honor one's roots and that's exactly what you'd be doing at Juliana's.

The story goes that after a NYC pizza icon sold their DUMBO-based pizzeria, they were itching to get back into the pizza business. The new owners ran into some troubles with their landlords and decided to move the shop next door into the old bank building where it still exists today. The scenset location stood vacant until the icon decided to open up Juliana's, named after their mother.

While Juliana's doesn't do slices, you're welcome to get a pie to-go and walk down to the waterfront to enjoy before the Brooklyn Bridge and downtown Manhattan.

Address: 19 Old Fulton Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201
Subway Stop: York St (F Train) or High St (A & C Trains)
Hours:

  • Daily: 11:30am - 9pm

Again, we don't advise walking here from your last stop. Even the subway is a bit far from the shop. We recommend just grabbing a ride-share to get here.

🏀
Brooklyn Nets v. Orlando Magic

While you're out in Brooklyn today, why not catch an NBA game?

Begin in Greenwich Village, one of New York's most charming and eclectic neighborhoods. Stroll along the tree-lined streets, admiring the charming brownstones and quaint shops along the way. It is recommended to stop by Washington Square Park, a bustling public square that is a hub for artists, musicians, and street performers.

From there, continue uptown to the Meatpacking District, a former industrial area that has been transformed into one of the city's trendiest neighborhoods. As you walk down the cobblestone streets, you'll pass by high-end boutiques, art galleries, and some of the city's best restaurants.

Next, you'll hit the High Line, a unique public park built on an elevated freight rail line. From here, you can witness stunning views of the city skyline as well as the Hudson River. The park is also home to a variety of public art installations, making it a truly immersive and unforgettable experience.

Finally, after completing your walk of the High Line, finish your self-guided tour up in Hudson Yards, one of New York City's newest and most innovative neighborhoods. This sprawling development features sleek skyscrapers, luxurious shopping, and some of the city's best dining options. Here, you can peruse the iconic shopping mall, where you'll find a wide range of high-end fashion retailers and gourmet food options.
