London Transport Options:

  • Underground (Tube): London's iconic underground network, commonly referred to as the "Tube," is a fast and efficient way to travel around the city. With 11 lines and hundreds of stations, it connects most major tourist areas.

Operating Hours: The Tube generally operates from around 5:00 AM to midnight, with some variations depending on the line.
Tickets: You can purchase single tickets, travelcards for unlimited travel within a specific timeframe, or an Oyster Card, a reusable card that offers pay-as-you-go functionality. You can also use your debit or credit card to make contactless payments.

  • Buses: London has an extensive bus network that covers all corners of the city. While slower than the Tube, buses offer a great way to experience the city and see the sights from street level.

Tickets: You can purchase single tickets or use an Oyster Card on buses or contactless payments.

  • Overground: The London Overground complements the Tube network, serving suburban areas and some central locations.
  • DLR (Docklands Light Railway): A light railway system serving primarily the Docklands area of East London.
  • National Rail: London has several major train stations connecting the city to other parts of the UK.

Taxis & Ride-Sharing Apps:

  • Black Cabs: These iconic black taxis can be hailed on the street or found at taxi ranks. They are a convenient option, but generally more expensive than other forms of transport.
  • Apps: Popular options include Uber and Bolt, offering convenient and often cheaper alternatives to traditional taxis.

👛
Tipping Guidelines

While extremely welcome and much appreciated, gratuities are considered a “bonus” and should reflect the level of service.

If you are happy with the service you have enjoyed and would like to show your gratitude to the people who have helped make it a very special experience for you, here below you can find the amounts we recommend for Tour Guides, Drivers, and other special services:

• Tour Guide Half Day - GBP/EUR 30 – 50
• Tour Guide Full Day - GBP/EUR 60 – 80
• Transfer (Driver/Greeter) - GBP/EUR 20
• Driver Half Day - GBP/EUR 30 – 50
• Driver Full Day - GBP/EUR 60 – 80
• Housekeeping staff - GBP/EUR 2 /day
• Hotel Porter - GBP/EUR 2 per bag (unless part of a group where occasionally this is paid in advance)
• Taxi – Round up to the nearest GBP/EUR for a short trip and to the nearest 10 GBP/EUR for a longer trip

Regarding hotels and restaurants, a service charge will usually be added to your bill and therefore there is no expectation to tip. Usually, the service charge will be clearly labeled at the bottom of your bill. If not included, then usually a 10% tip is expected.

If the service is included and the meal and service exceed your expectations, you can round the bill up to the nearest GBP/EUR 10.

The above amounts are to be considered per service and not per person.

Afternoon Tea Recommendations

Some of the best places to enjoy a traditional British Afternoon Tea in London are:

  • Claridge's, in your hotel, hosts an Afternoon Tea experience with a twist of Claridge’s creativity in The Foyer & Reading Room.
  • The Ritz is one of the most timeless experiences in London for a reason. Attention to detail and fantastic service make this afternoon tea well worth it.
  • Theatre Royal Drury Lane is perfect for Bridgerton fans! This playful, Regency-inspired afternoon tea is the brainchild of a baker, presented in the historic theatre’s Grand Saloon, recently restored to glory with sugary pink walls, green marble panels, and crystal chandeliers.
  • The Dorchester is set in an expansive salon bathed in golden light, where verdant palms flank curved cushioned seating nooks and side tables overflow with fresh roses.
  • The Beaumont, you can imagine F Scott Fitzgerald himself reclining languorously in this Art Deco-inspired hotel’s sumptuous Gatsby Room, an oasis of dark woods and esoteric artwork where afternoon tea is served while a baby grand piano tinkles in the background.
