Honeymoon on Safari in Tanzania

Whether you're an adventurous couple or just want to veer away from the traditional trip, a safari honeymoon promises to be a wild ride.

Some honeymoons lean adventurous, others are more indulgent. In Tanzania, your honeymoon can be both. Begin on a true adventure while cruising the meandering waterways of Tarangire, hiking in the iconic Ngorongoro Crater, and savoring the remoteness of the vast Serengeti savannah.

After your mainland adventure, relish each other's company in the most romantic way possible: white-sand beaches framed by the azure Indian Ocean on a near-private island of Zanzibar.

Trip Overview

Tarangire | 3 nights | Chem Chem Lodge
Ngorongoro | 3 nights | andBeyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge
Serengeti | 3 nights | Singita Faru Faru
Zanzibar | 4 nights | andBeyond Mnemba Island

Days 1–3: Tarangire National Park

The name Tarangire is derived from the river here, which provides permanent water for wildlife and makes it a great spot for sightings. This region is also known for its huge elephant population and is also home to over 300 species of birdlife.

Your Stay: Chem Chem Lodge

Even though you’re at the doorstep of not one but two national parks, you don’t even need to leave the concession area of Chem Chem to see big game. Wildlife frequently meanders through the property, offering unbelievable sightings from the comfort of your luxurious tent.

What really makes Chem Chem stand out is its conservation efforts, so every stay gives back to the land and community.

Days 4–6: Ngorongoro Crater

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is widely considered the eighth wonder of the world and is home to the most giant volcanic crater on the planet. Unique dining takes on a whole new meaning as you tuck into an authentic local picnic on the crater floor.

Your Stay: &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge

While you may be surrounded by the bush, the accommodations themselves are more akin to a palace, complete with butler service and Swarovski binoculars for game drives. Apart from organizing safari excursions in the area with the highest concentration of lions in Africa, &Beyond also takes guests to visit local Masai tribes.

Days 7–9: Serengeti National Park

Famed for its annual migration, the Serengeti offers arguably the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa: great herds of buffalo, elephant, and giraffe on top of thousands upon thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala, and Grant's gazelle.

Golden-maned lion prides feast on the abundance of plain grazers. Solitary leopards haunt the acacia trees lining the Seronera River, while a high density of cheetahs prowl the southeastern plains.

Your Stay: Singita Faru Faru

You’ll first assume that the opulent rooms are the highlight of the Faru Faru Lodge, with four-poster beds and porcelain bathtubs overlooking the Serengeti through floor-to-ceiling windows. But a safari lodge is only as good as its game drives, and being on a private reserve means activities typically not allowed—like bush walks, night drives, and off-roading—are all on the table and always led by local, knowledgeable guides.

Days 10–13: Zanzibar

You'll be treated to ample opportunities to snorkel, paddle board (SUP), kayak, sail, windsurf, or take a romantic sunset cruise, keeping your eyes peeled for dolphins. Explore local foods at the Darajani bazaar, take a local cooking class, and go on a Spice Tour to learn about the local plants, herbs, and spices.

Your Stay: &Beyond Mnemba Island

Just a 15-minute speedboat ride from Zanzibar’s main island, &Beyond takes the Indian Ocean experience but concentrates it all into one private island. Thatched-roof bungalows that are steps away from the shoreline provide the quintessential honeymoon experience.
