For safari, we recommend layering your clothing. Game drives take place early morning and evenings and it is quite cold before the sun rises and after it sets. The day-time temperatures can be warm and sunny and it can get quite hot. Light, natural fabrics like cotton and linen are recommended for during the day (shorts, t-shirts, summer dresses around the lodge) and in the evenings, layer up with long trousers, long sleeve vests and a warm jacket. Formal wear is not required at any of our lodges – you are free to come straight from game drive into dinner.
We recommend neutral tones and light colors. Certain colors, like black and navy blue attract Tsetse flies in East Africa and dark colors attract the heat. Neutral colours are advised. Avoid white/bright colours for bush walks. Laundry is done complimentary at the lodges, so that is one less thing to worry about as well and will help with packing lightly.
Tanzania
Currently, travelers with US passports require Visas for Tanzania. For nationalities that are required to obtain a Visa on arrival, we recommend that you obtain your Visa in advance to avoid delays on arrival at the airport. You must be able to produce a return ticket on arrival in Tanzania. Passports must be valid for six months after the date of travel and you are required to have two blank pages in your passport.
Please be aware that with immediate effect, Kilimanjaro International Airport has changed the process of issuing Visas on arrival. The new process involves travelers having to stand in 3 different queues (a queue for a Government Control Number, a queue to make payment and a queue for immigration to check and issue the Visa), adding a significant amount of time to the arrival process, with some travelers taking in an excess of 2 additional hours at the airport. With this change in place, we strongly encourage all travelers flying into Kilimanjaro to obtain their Visa online in advance of arrival. E-Visa’s typically take 2 – 3 weeks to be issued.
Always check the most recent regulations with your nearest Tanzanian High Commission or Embassy before traveling. Further details are available on the Tanzania Ministry of Home Affairs website.
Kenya
All visitors are required to obtain an electronic travel authorization before entering Kenya.
Additionally, you will also need:
Always check the most recent regulations before traveling. Further details are available on the U.S. State Department's website.
Zimbabwe
You need a passport, visa, return ticket, and adequate funds to cover your intended stay in order to enter Zimbabwe. If you are traveling to Zimbabwe for tourism, business, or transit, you may obtain a visa at the airports or other border ports-of-entry. There is currently no option of getting a Zimbabwean tourist visa in advance through the Zimbabwean Embassy in Washington. Extensions of the 30-day and 45-day visas are possible and require visiting the Zimbabwe Immigration Office's public window. Travelers who intend to engage in any non-tourism related activity require a visa in advance of entry. Contact the Department of Immigration of Zimbabwe for further details and information on other types of visas and entry permits.
Zimbabwe has implemented measures to stem the flow of U.S. dollars from the country. Tourists and visitors who do not have bank accounts in Zimbabwe should:
Always check the most recent regulations before traveling. Further details are available on the U.S. State Department's website.
South Africa
South Africa strictly enforces entry and exit requirements and other immigration laws. Failure to observe these requirements may result in the traveler being denied entry, detained, deported, or deemed inadmissible to enter South Africa in the future.
Please visit the Department of Home Affairs website for the most up to date entry and exit requirements. Visit the Embassy of South Africa for the most current visa information.
Always check the most recent regulations before traveling. Further details are available on the U.S. State Department's website.
Malaria is prevalent in East Africa and parts of Southern Africa. We recommend taking anti-malarial tablets.
The most important defenses against malaria are:
Always check the latest recommendations with your travel clinic or doctor. We do not recommend drinking the tap water in East Africa and advise that you drink bottled water.
Check-in is 1 1⁄2 hours prior to departure for domestic flights and 3 hours prior to departure for international flights.
Some scheduled regional and inter-lodge flights may involve multiple stops before reaching the final destination. Many flights are operated as air shuttle transfers and therefore departure times may vary by up to one hour.
When traveling on normal scheduled international flights, the luggage limit is usually 20kgs (approx. 44 lbs.) per person.
On light aircraft transfers there is usually a 15kg (approx. 33 lbs.) per person limit on luggage. This is for safety and space reasons. Please note that this 15kg includes any cameras, camera bags and any associated equipment. For those carrying heavy personal equipment, it is possible to book an extra seat and which allows for an additional 80kg (approx. 176 lbs.) of baggage (up to three extra bags; max 32 kgs (approx. 70 lbs.) per bag).
Please remember:
Tipping during your holiday is not compulsory. If, however, you want to tip because you have received good service, we have enclosed a brief guideline to assist you:
Currency: We advise clients to take spending money in the form of US Dollar cash, as this is favored on most excursions for tips, drinks and curios. Credit cards are generally accepted at hotels, lodges and a few safari camps. The Vat rate is currently 18%.
Transfers: We recommend about US$10 per transfer for the driver per movement.
Touring (excluding Camp/Game Lodge) Driver and/or Guides: For half day tours we recommend about US$20 and for a full day tour we recommend US$30 per day.
Safari Guides/Trackers at Game Lodges: We recommend US$40 per room per day for the guide and US$20 per room per day for the tracker.
Porterage: We recommend about US$5 per guest per movement.
Hotel/Guest House/Game Lodge Staff: We recommend about US$40 per room per day for hotel staff i.e. housekeeping, etc. In some instances where you are allocated a butler or dedicated waiter for the duration of your stay at a specific property, you could tip about UD$20 per room per day.
Restaurants/Hotels: 10 - 15% is customary on meal accounts if you are satisfied with the service. For bigger groups of 10 people or more, some restaurants charge a mandatory service fee to the final bill.

Arusha is located at the foothills of Mount Meru on the eastern side of the Great Rift Valley. This is the gateway to the northern safari circuit, with easy access to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara, Tarangire, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Mount Meru. Its elevation of 1,400 m (4,600 ft) keeps temperatures relatively cool despite proximity to the equator; temperatures generally range between 10 and 30 C (50 and 86F), with little humidity due to the altitude.
Arusha Coffee Lodge’s location is a combination of tranquility and convenience. Situated on the fertile grounds of a coffee plantation, Arusha Coffee Lodge is a sanctuary of peaceful gardens right on the doorstep of Arusha city. The lodge is also close to Arusha airport and situated along the road leading to Tanzania’s most famous national parks, making it the best place to begin and end a safari.
Arusha Coffee Lodge is a delightful sanctuary of aromas, gourmet food, and vibrant gardens located on the expansive grounds of a verdant coffee plantation. The lodge is made up of a main area incorporating a restaurant, a café bistro, various boutiques at the Traders Walk, a spa, and a swimming pool. The rooms and suites spill off to the left of the main area, each looking out onto coffee trees and surrounding gardens.

After breakfast and check-out, your safari adventure begins with a road transfer to the Ngorongoro Crater. This is a drive of approximately 3-4 hours.
Booked by Scenset
A veritable Garden of Eden, the Ngorongoro Crater is only 260 km2 (100mi2) in size yet has some of the highest densities of lion and spotted hyena found anywhere in the world. The view from the crater rim at 2,000 feet above the floor is nothing short of breathtaking. The thick mountain forests of the crater highlands strike a sharp contrast with the short grass plains of the crater floor with its yellow fever Acacia woodlands and streams. The soda lake Magadi in the center of the crater floor sometimes attracts lesser flamingos, and the area is known for very large tusked elephants, black rhino, and great predator action.
Easily accessible from Arusha, the three million year old Ngorongoro Crater was once a gigantic volcano that some suggest was even higher than Mt Kilimanjaro. It is the largest intact caldera in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Walks are available on the rim in certain areas, but game viewing on the crater floor is strictly by vehicle and on designated game drive routes. Local pastoralists and their villages surround the western side of the crater whilst the eastern side is heavily forested up to the farming town of Karatu.
Here, Entamanu defines their own Ngorongoro, off the beaten track, in Maasai territory. Following one of the world’s most stunning private drives, they bring you up to a dizzying edge of elemental Africa with panoramic views spinning forward into the Crater and back to the Serengeti plains. This is much more than a great vantage point for visiting the Crater, this is where they live the Ngorongoro life. There is surely no truer way to appreciate the magnitude and wonder of the Ngorongoro Crater, than from Entamanu where it's done entirely on your own terms and schedules.
The camp is designed to be removable; stunning cottage-style rooms sit raised on platforms that can be dismantled and taken away. Interiors are of sustainably sourced wood and everything within the camp is locally sourced and made by talented Tanzanian artisans. Extraordinary care has been taken to ensure minimal disturbance to the environment, and not so much as a bush has been removed to make way for the camp.

This photographer’s paradise is one of the best places in Africa to view the big cats as well as an amazing array of plains game. The northern Serengeti has the classic big open plains of the African savannah, sprawling views, and consistently delivers excellent wildlife sightings. It is one of the best places in East Africa for leopards, and the kopje strewn hillsides that are home to these elusive creatures are in themselves stunningly beautiful. A few days here can be very action packed and there’s even chances to see black rhinos in some areas.
The months of July to October see over two million animals traverse these plains as part of the Great Wildebeest Migration in their never ending search for water and nutrient dense grasses. This is one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World and what many call the “World Cup of Wildlife.” The energy of the bush is palpable as it literally hums with activity; the sheer numbers of animals boggles the mind and it is all part of being in this place during one of the most exhilarating times of the year.
If you are lucky you may witness a river crossing, when masses of wildebeest and zebra cross the nearby Mara River, taking their chances with the resident crocodiles who lie in wait. The other predators are all present as well, and days here can be very action packed.
Overlooking a spectacular riverbend in the northernmost corner of the Serengeti, this permanent tented camp is located in the Lamai Triangle – close to awe-inspiring wildebeest crossings during the Great Migration.
In the main lodge area, the pool sala invites al fresco dining, while a signature bar-deli provides fresh and healthy snacks for guests to help themselves whenever they want. Embracing new African flavours, the camp's food journey emphasises dishes that contain locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, while also offering a taste of East African culinary traditions. With a focus on refreshing and light meals, mezze boards poolside, fireside snacks, and tapas align perfectly with the camp’s intimate atmosphere and playful spirit.
With a range of wellness experiences seamlessly woven into every stay, guests can ease into everything from wellness treatments to yoga or meditation while soaking up the privacy of their suites or private decks. There are also personal gym-in-a-bag kits, as well as the complete tranquillity of long and leisurely soaks in private bathtubs overlooking the breathtaking Mara River below.

Enjoy today at leisure exploring the Serengeti, relaxing at the camp, and experiencing the Great Migration.
Singita’s guests traverse 98,000 acres of remote and untouched wilderness in Tanzania’s Serengeti, and have exclusive access to some of the world’s most sought-after game-viewing – including one of the famed crossing routes of the Great Migration.
The Serengeti is perhaps the most famous African wilderness area, its name synonymous with the notion of safari for nearly a hundred years. This UNESCO World Heritage site covers 14,750 km2 (5,700 mi2) of premiere game viewing in Acacia woodlands, open grasslands, and undulating savannahs interspersed with seasonal rivers. The park on the northern side borders the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya and, together with several other smaller reserves and conservation areas, forms the larger Mara-Serengeti ecosystem.

The Mara conservancies are Maasai owned group ranches that have combined to conserve a total area nearly the size of the Maasai Mara National Reserve itself, covering 1450 km2 (560 mi2) across fifteen conservancies. The wildlife in the conservancies can be comparable to the main Maasai Mara game reserve, and in fact some areas have higher densities of predators than in the central reserve. Because there are fewer camps, the conservancies can offer a more exclusive experience than in the central reserve, with generally fewer game viewing vehicles around sightings. There are opportunities in some conservancies to do night drives, walking safaris, as well as visits to some of the villages of the local Maasai who own the land.
The conservancy approach is widely seen as the way forward for wildlife conservation and eco-tourism in Kenya, because it not only secures vital space for wildlife but includes the local population as custodians of their national heritage. This has been vital not only for conservation of the whole greater Mara but also wildlife corridors and the prosperity of many hundreds of Maasai families. Nearly forty tourist camps contribute to employment amongst the communities and provide a presence, alongside Maasai anti poaching units, for the protection of the wildlife.
Step back in time at this award-winning, conservation-led, authentic and luxurious tented camp. One of only eleven designated Global Ecosphere Retreats in the world, chosen for their work toward global sustainability and community support.
Located in the private Olderkesi Conservancy, a wildlife rich conservancy leased from the Maasai community, on the border of the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

Nairobi is the capital of Kenya and East Africa’s most cosmopolitan city, with a vibrant population of 4.5 million. Unique to the city is the proximity of Nairobi National Park, a true wilderness area juxtaposed against the larger urban metropolis. Born from one family’s passion for Kenya and its wilderness, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust was established 45 years ago and is best known for its Orphans' Project, the first and most successful elephant orphan rescue and rehabilitation program in the world. To discover how the Falls were formed and what local customs and traditions surround them it is well worth booking a guided Tour of the Falls. Described by a local tribe living in the area in the 1800’s as ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ - ‘the Smoke that Thunders’ and in more modern terms as ‘the greatest known curtain of falling water’, Victoria Falls are a spectacular sight of awe-inspiring beauty and grandeur on the Zambezi River, bordering Zambia and Zimbabwe.
It’s a truly awe-inspiring experience – the sight, the sound, the smell; the humbling feeling that here indeed is Nature’s Supreme Masterpiece. No photograph can begin to depict the reality…and nothing prepares you for your first sight.
This tour is conducted during the daytime. En route, clients may be taken past the ‘Big Tree’ where they may stop and take photos. Clients will be accompanied through the Rainforest by one of our qualified Guides who will give a brief history of the Falls themselves as well as detailing the flora, fauna, bird & wildlife and other points of interest. The Sabi Sand Nature Reserve, named for the Sabie and Sand Rivers which flow through it, is renowned for its wildlife density and predator interactions; seldom will a visitor not see the Big Five. Although it shares a fenceless boundary with Kruger National Park, much of the wildlife in the Sabi Sand stays more or less in the reserve. Over the years, the animals have become used to the presence of safari vehicles, resulting in close encounters, particularly with the elusive leopards.
Roaming packs of African wild dogs, territorial lions, and large herds of elephants are also signature sightings. As well as having a consistently high density of wildlife, the reserve's conservation ethos keeps vehicle numbers to a minimum at wildlife sightings. This offers a more exclusive safari experience while ensuring the welfare of the habituated animals. Being in the private reserve generally affords more flexibility with opportunities to off-road, enjoy night drives and bush walks, all of which make visiting this area a truly unique experience.
A narrator recounts a deeply personal wildlife adventure: a classic safari experience for the sophisticated traveler. Exhilarating wildlife encounters and sincere hospitality create an unforgettably enriching experience. Beneath ancient Ebony and Leadwood trees, a tranquil haven is enigmatically embraced by its rich riverine setting. The peaceful atmosphere of the camp, on the banks of the Mabrak River, is restorative.

The Sabi Sands is a private 65,000-hectare reserve known as one of the few places that you can see the Big 5 in one day. It has a diverse habitat with the Sand and Sabi Rivers running through it, a huge range of wildlife and a reputation for big cat sightings.
Head out for an early morning game drive in open vehicles, stopping for a refreshing coffee break and a chance to listen to the sounds of the bush whilst admiring the landscape. After some down-time and a siesta back at camp, set off again in the late afternoon when the bush comes alive. Sundowners as night falls, then spotlights come out in search of a new range of creatures. For those needing to expend some energy, a guided walking safari is an ideal way to learn about smaller animals and plants.
The Dulini Collection presents a signature safari experience in the company of expert guides and in the comfort of exclusive six-seater game viewers. Exhilarating encounters with wildlife and sincere hospitality are what make Dulini an unforgettably enriching experience.
