Spanish Getaway

There’s something familiar about Spain that draws visitors, who maybe remember a few phrases of high school Spanish or harbor a vague curiosity of bullfighting or siestas. But it’s the staggering diversity—of cultures, languages, cuisines, and landscapes—that keeps travelers coming back again and again. Every neighborhood and town offers something unique, and the Spain you thought you knew is suddenly full of surprises.

Barcelona

It’s clear from the moment you step foot in Barcelona that it’s unlike any other Spanish city. The boulevards are wider, the architecture is quirkier, and, if you have an ear for languages, you may hear that the locals are speaking Catalan, not Spanish. Gaudi’s masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia, is just one of his architectural gems scattered about the city. With something to offer art enthusiasts, adventurous foodies, and beach loungers, it’s no wonder that Barcelona is one of Europe’s top destinations.

🍢

Restaurant Recommendations

There's no shortage of great food in Barcelona, and some of the best meals are at the bar you stumble into by surprise. Here's a list of some top places to eat. Please let us know if you'd like reservations.

  • Cocina Hemanos Torres: The well-known Torres brothers present their innovative gastronomic proposal located in the neighborhood of Les Corts. Enjoy a nice evening while the chef cooks for us in one of the 3 islands.
  • Atempo: Atempo offers a new gastronomic format merging the waiter’s trade with the passion and creativity of the chefs. An offer based on products with soul, in an intimate and cozy environment.
  • Hoffman: Hoffman is the restaurant run by the person responsible for the prestigious cookery school with the same name. With a Michelin star, their menu presents modern creations that have Mediterranean-Catalan and French haute cuisine as a starting point. Desserts are simply spectacular. It is essential to book in advance.
  • Can Ramonet: Paella is perhaps the quintessential Spanish dish, and the best place to eat it is near the coast. Head to Barceloneta neighborhood near the water and try one of their famous paellas (remember in Spain, paella is traditionally lunch food, not dinner!).
  • Solomillo: Indulge all your darkest carnivorous desires at this meat-lovers’ paradise, where the name of the restaurant is the same as your order (solomillo means “sirloin steak”). This is the best steak in Barcelona and the menu is customizable to your liking.
  • Berbena: Few tourists have heard of Berbena. Inside, there are daily batches of home-baked bread that smell like your grandma’s kitchen, comfort food like hearty beef with wine stew and gooey slices of Spanish omelet, platters of locally sourced cheese and charcuteries.
  • Bocanariz: Visit this unassuming wine bar which has a selection of hundreds of bottles, from Cataluña, around Spain, and the world. Paired with some small bites to snack on, it's the perfect Spanish bar experience.
  • La Pepita: A more casual eatery with a fun vibe and delicious menu to accompany it. It's always filled with locals, a good sign for any place to eat.

Live Music Recommendations

Barcelona's vibrant music scene encompasses a range of genres, from flamenco and jazz to indie and electronic.

Here are our top picks of where you can experience live music and get a taste of the local culture:

  • Palau de la Música Catalana is an architectural gem, as well as a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most prestigious concert halls in the world; known for its stunning modernist design. It hosts a wide variety of performances, including many by local musicians and ensembles, across genres like classical, flamenco, and jazz.
  • Harlem Jazz Club, nestled in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, is known for its intimate atmosphere and excellent acoustic setup. It's one of the city's oldest live music venues and has a rich history of hosting some of the best jazz, blues, funk, and soul performances. The club's cozy ambiance makes it an ideal spot for music aficionados looking to experience authentic live performances.
  • Jamboree, located in the lively Plaça Reial, is a legendary jazz and dance club that features live music performances every night. The venue has a storied past, hosting international jazz legends as well as promoting local talent.
  • Tarantos, just steps away from Jamboree, is one of Barcelona's oldest flamenco tablao, dating back to 1963. It offers an up-close and personal experience of authentic flamenco performances. The shows, featuring skilled dancers, guitarists, and singers, provide an intense emotional journey through the traditional art form of flamenco.

Coffee Shops

Barcelona's café culture is thriving, blending the city's love for tradition with a growing appreciation for modern, third-wave coffee.

Below are some of our favorite picks:

  • Nomad Coffee started as a pop-up coffee project but quickly grew into one of Barcelona’s most respected coffee roasters and shops. It’s known for its high-quality beans, expertly brewed by skilled baristas. Nomad is a must-visit for anyone serious about coffee.
  • Satan's Coffee Corner, with a bold name and a no-compromise approach to quality, has established itself as a cornerstone of Barcelona's specialty coffee scene. It offers a variety of brewing methods and a selection of homemade food in a distinctly hip atmosphere.

Check-In

Check into your hotel and settle in.

The afternoon is yours to explore the area or relax at Son Bunyola by the water.

🏖️
Son Bunyola Beach

Head down to the private beach. It's a pebbly beach instead of a sandy beach, but there are chairs and umbrellas to use. It's about a 20-minute trek from the hotel, or there are complimentary buggies that can take you there.

This is a recommendation only.

Our Suggestions

This afternoon, consider visiting the enchanting town of Soller to explore the charming town square and indulge in local delicacies.

🚂
Recommendation: Old Sóller Train

The historic tramway in Sóller has a peculiarity that makes it special compared to other urban streetcars: it joins the mountain and sea in a half hour trip, from the valley in the heart of the Serra with the port and the beach. It's a wooden 1900's style wagon, offering not only an experience back in time but some of the most beautiful views of the island.

This train departs from a station and takes you through the mountains to Soller. We recommend this in the afternoon for ice cream and drinks at Port de Soller.

This is a recommendation only.

🕍
Explore Sóller

Why not spend some time exploring the medieval town of Sóller where you can explore tiny streets filled with boutiques, bars and eateries. Indulge your taste buds at a local bistro to experience some "mar y montana" (sea and mountain) specialties.

This is a recommendation only.

Enjoy your afternoon of independent exploration!

Your Stay: Son Bunyola

Set on a sprawling estate, this luxurious hotel captures the essence of Mallorcan charm. The elegant rooms and suites feature traditional furnishings and modern comforts, while the expansive gardens and private beach provide idyllic spots for unwinding. Day 5: At Leisure

Today has been left for you to explore Mallorca independently. Consider spending the day in Palma.

⚠️
Itinerary Change Due to Weather

The boat trip has been rescheduled to Monday, July 8, due to weather and water conditions.

The boat captain has advised that conditions are not suitable for boating today — it is expected to be windy with waves on the north side of the island. The trip has been postponed to July 8th when calmer water conditions are anticipated.

Enjoy your free time today exploring Palma! If you wish to visit a beach, we recommend a beach on the south side of the island where the wind will be less strong - for example, Es Trenc (further suggestions will be provided on Tuesday, July 9).

Please see the Hotel Concierge for additional suggestions and details based on the current weather.

🌴
Exploring Palma

Rising in honey-colored stone from the broad waters of the Badia de Palma, this enduring city dates back to the 13th-century Christian reconquest of the island, and to the Moors, Romans and Talayotic people before that. A richly studded diadem of historical sites, the city also shelters a seemingly endless array of galleries, restaurants, craft studios and bars – it's without doubt Mallorca's greatest treasure. Wander in any direction from the awe-inspiring Gothic Catedral at its geographic and historical heart and you'll find bent medieval streets lined with aristocratic townhouses, looming baroque churches, teeming public squares, vibrant bohemian neighborhoods and markets overflowing with all the bounty of the island.

This is a recommendation only.
