In July, Madrid experiences a hot and dry climate typical of its inland location, with average temperatures ranging from around 66 to 91 degrees Fahrenheit. The city enjoys long, sunny days with minimal rainfall, creating ideal conditions for outdoor activities and exploration of the vibrant Spanish capital. Meanwhile, on the island of Mallorca in the Mediterranean Sea, temperatures during July are also warm, ranging from approximately 68 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit. Mallorca's weather is generally more moderate compared to Madrid, offering a pleasant mix of sun and refreshing sea breezes. This makes July a popular month for tourists to enjoy the island's beautiful beaches, crystal-clear waters, and picturesque landscapes.

Departure Day!
Sunday, 30 June, 2024
Day 1: Welcome to España!

The appeal of Spain’s capital city is how laidback it is. Visitors don’t come for the big-name attractions, but for the local lifestyle. Wander labyrinthine streets through colorful neighborhoods, stumbling in and out of tapas bars along the way. Meals are served late and last for hours since the locals would never rush good food, wine, and company. Of course, there are some sights you can’t miss, including a glitzy royal palace and cherished art museums.

Upon exiting the secure area of the terminal, you will be greeted by your driver and transferred in private to your hotel in the heart of Madrid.

Welcome to Madrid

On your first afternoon in Madrid, we invite you to explore the city independently.

For your one day in Madrid, here are some recommendations of what to see and eat!

  • Plaza Mayor is the historic center of Madrid with over four centuries of history.
  • Right next to Plaza Mayor is Mercado San Miguel. It's Madrid's most iconic market and a great place to grab a snack (it's a little touristy, but still worth seeing while you're there!).
  • Walk over to Parque de Retiro, Madrid's "Central Park," for a lovely stroll through the gardens.
  • For a more authentic market experience, try Mercado de la Paz. There are many great stalls to eat in there, but seek out Casa Dani for one of the most famous tortilla españolas in the capital!
  • If you want to check out museums, the Prado and Reina Sofia are within walking distance of each other. The Prado is known for its classic Spanish artists, and the Reina Sofia for more contemporary artists.
🍽️
Madrid Restaurant Recommendations

Here are some great spots for getting a bite in Madrid, from casual tapas bars to finer diner restaurants. If you'd like a reservation at any of them, just send a message in the chat.

  • Bodegas La Ardosa: This classic Madrileño tavern dates back to 1892, and it’s the ideal place for sitting, chatting, and drinking while getting a dose of Spanish history. Definitely try the tortilla de patatas and the artichokes!
  • Casa Dani: One of the most famous stalls at Madrid’s Mercado de la Paz is Casa Dani, a spot that serves up generous portions of croquetas, oxtail, and their famous tortilla de patata.
  • Juana la Loca: Juana La Loca is a stylish, popular restaurant with glass cases sitting on the bar filled with tapas and pintxos.
  • Saddle: The dishes, like the garlic-topped Mediterranean red prawns, Caspian pearl caviar with blinis and crème fraîche, spider crab marinated in sherry, and aged beef shank always deliver, and you’ll probably be talking about every course on this tasting menu back home.
  • Charrua: The speciality here is the parrilla, meaning grilled pieces of meat. Enjoy some of the best steak filets you can find in the Spanish capital at this elegant restaurant.
Your Stay: Only You Boutique

Why we love it for you: Situated in one of Madrid’s hippest barrios, the Only YOU Hotel exudes a coolness that matches the neighborhood around it. Scenset features like the classic facade, arched windows, and wooden beams in the ceiling give it a retro touch to contrast with the otherwise modern design. Iconic spots like the Prado or Plaza Mayor are only 15 minutes away on foot, while the distance to many of Madrid’s best bars and restaurants can be measured in steps.

Day 2: Exploring Madrid
🛍️
Recommended: Shopping in Madrid

Madrid is a fantastic city for shopping, especially for a stylish and trendy teen! You'll want to explore the Salamanca neighborhood, particularly along the famous shopping street, Calle de Serrano. Here, you'll find luxury boutiques and high-end fashion brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci. The ABC Serrano shopping center is also worth a visit, offering a curated selection of designer stores. Additionally, the El Corte Inglés department store on Calle de Goya is a shopping haven, featuring a wide range of upscale brands across fashion, cosmetics, and accessories. Enjoy the chic atmosphere and indulge in the latest fashion trends in these elegant and sophisticated shopping districts.

🍽️
Recommended: Lunch at StreetXO

Acclaimed chef Dabiz Muñoz, named best chef in the world and creator of the restaurant DiverXO, offers his menu at another location called StreetXO. StreetXO is Dabiz's way of centralizing street food influenced by different parts of the world. It is the most informal, sassy and innovative notion in its cuisine, where excess is the essence of the restaurant.

StreetXO does not accept reservations. The cocktail bar opens at midday for lunch and the kitchen opens at 1 p.m. We recommend arriving around midday to request a table.

Day 5: Travel to Mallorca

Mallorca is an island fit for royalty—literally—since the 14th-century palace looming over the capital is still an official residence for Spain’s king and queen. Outside of the medieval walls, the rest of the city has been updated with some of the chicest restaurants, bars, and shopping in the Mediterranean, but the turquoise water and seaside cliffs of Mallorca’s beaches are still just as heavenly as they were centuries ago.

⚠️
Itinerary Change Due to Weather

The boat trip has been rescheduled to Monday, July 8, due to weather and water conditions.

The boat captain has advised that conditions aren't ideal for boating today — it's expected to be windy with waves on the north side of the island. The trip has been moved to July 8th, when calmer water is anticipated.

Enjoy your day. If you'd like to visit a beach today, a beach on the south side of the island, such as Es Trenc, may be less windy.

For additional suggestions and details based on current weather conditions, please see the Hotel Concierge.
