A Journey to Southern Africa
🌤️
When to Visit

South Africa and Mozambique can be visited year-round! Enjoy warm summer temperatures from December through March in Cape Town and the Winelands, though this is also rainy season on safari. The rains are typically short, however! April through November is winter in South Africa and dry season on safari, so there will be less vegetation and easier wildlife viewing.

Mozambique is also great year-round with temperatures ranging from 68°F to 80°F between winter and summer.

Cape Town

With its cerulean coastline and the dramatic backdrop of Table Mountain, Cape Town is a city that makes a striking first impression. However, it doesn’t take much time to realize that Cape Town’s magic goes much deeper than its good looks. The cosmopolitan city is home to chic hotels, innovative restaurants, and a thriving art scene. It has a fraught history, but travelers are sure to leave more enlightened—and more enamored—than when they arrived.

Your Stay: The Silo

The Silo Hotel has been built in the grain elevator portion of the historic grain silo complex occupying six floors above Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) which houses Africa’s largest collection of contemporary African art. The exterior of the building was designed by Heatherwick Studio. From the outside, the greatest visible change to the building’s scenset structure is the addition of the ingenious glass windows inserted into the geometry of the hotel floors. These multi-faceted structures glisten like diamonds during the day while at night the building transforms into a glowing beacon in the Table Bay harbor.

Babylonstoren still holds its signature look with whitewashed walls of thick stone or primitive brick, ornate gables, and thatched roofs but with contemporary glass boxes (to house a kitchen and dining area) seamlessly added onto the Cape Dutch cottages. The result is a modern yet authentic sensibility, that takes the farm firmly into the future.

Seeing any one of the Big Five species is a thrill on safari, but what makes Sabi Sands remarkable is the likelihood of seeing them all. It shares a border with the massive Kruger National Park, but this private reserve is only open to travelers staying in one of the handful of lodges on the Sabi Sands grounds, meaning more freedom, fewer people, and a much better chance of seeing wildlife. More importantly, Sabi Sands is a leader in conservation and protecting its cherished animals.

Your Stay: Dulini River Lodge

Set above the perennial waters of the Sand River, Dulini River’s understated décor and subtle African aesthetic, infused with the tones and textures of the riverine setting, combine to create an effortlessly stylish safari escape in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Beneath the boughs of mature riverine forest, boardwalks meander to reach the six chic suites, each boasting a wide private terrace and offering unforgettable wilderness views. The serenity of the setting is reflected in elemental tones and textures of six magnificent suites, which emerge from the banks of the river. With cantilevered decks boasting heated plunge pools, relaxation in Nature’s peace is a given.

Kruger National Park is South Africa’s largest National Park at approximately 6.4 million acres, which is about 30 times the size of the Sabi Sands Reserve. The landscape here is dramatic, characterized by outcrops of rhyolitic rock and enormous euphorbia trees along with the incredible game that has made this one of the world's top safari destinations.

Your Stay: Singita Lebombo

Break away to a brilliantly bold and contemporary space of Singita Lebombo, suspended aloft the N’wanetsi River in the Kruger National Park. The design of Lebombo Lodge was inspired by the many eagles’ nests built into the cliff face of the river bank, resulting in organic, light-filled structures, floating between river and sky. All communal areas of the lodge have been pushed out into nature to ensure that the outside bursts in, offering immersive and meditative spaces set in a dramatic landscape of giant euphorbia trees.
