An innovative reforestation program

A stay at Wilderness Bisate Lodge isn't only about the once-in-a-lifetime experience of gorilla trekking – it's also a way to directly contribute to a world-leading conservation program, and the local community at Volcanoes.

The lodge's pioneering reforestation program has led to a phenomenal impact on the rare flora and fauna in Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda. Each year since the project began, they've germinated over 100,000 indigenous tree seedlings to restore this natural environment.

This combined effort from conservationists, the lodge staff, and community members has also aided in reintroducing a wide variety of species. This includes the Egyptian mongoose and golden monkey, along with one of the world's most iconic endangered species, the mountain gorilla.

Community upliftment

Wilderness Safaris and Bisate Lodge are also committed to supporting and giving back to the neighboring communities. Wherever possible, the lodge sources supplies locally, from food produce to building materials. It also provides ongoing support to the local community collective of artisans who create arts and crafts for Bisate and their guests.

On top of this, Bisate has partnered with the Fossey Fund, a charity that is committed to the protection of the mountain gorillas, and improving access to clean water for the surrounding communities.

A unique stay

In between the bucket-list experiences of gorilla and golden monkey trekking, farm, and community visits, make sure you spend plenty of time at the lodge itself. Seamlessly built into a dramatic hillside, with unrivaled views of the Virunga volcanoes, this is a truly unique lodge.

Each thatched dome-like forest room features vibrant interiors that pair beautifully with the surrounding forest.
