Unveil a tapestry of rich history, vibrant culture, and captivating experiences in Lima. This exciting metropolis on the Pacific Ocean is full of character. It has a booming culinary scene, urban pre-Columbian pyramids, modern art galleries that will dazzle you and colorful neighborhoods ideal for strolls. It was the "City of Kings" to the Spanish conquistadors. Today it's a city of contrasts: shanty towns rub shoulders with skyscrapers, high-end restaurants with street food, ancient temples sit among colonial churches, and bumper-to-bumper traffic leads to sheer cliffs and endless horizons.
Meet your driver and expert guide who will take you on an in-depth, insider tour of Lima’s historical centre. Plaza de Armas is the birthplace of the colonial city centre and where the declaration of Peru’s independence from Spanish rule took place. It serves as the epicenter of the old town, surrounded by the Cathedral of Lima (St. John the Apostle and Evangelist) the Municipal Palace and Archbishop’s Palace, The Magistrate House (Casa del Oidor) and the Government Palace. Casa de Aliaga, a 500-year-old colonial mansion that has been in the same family for 17 generations. Continue on to the leafy neighborhood of San Isidro and end once again in the beautiful oceanfront of Miraflores.

Towering trees, dense vegetation, winding rivers, and hidden oxbow lakes create a vibrant ecosystem that supports an astonishing variety of wildlife, including jaguars, macaws, sloths, and colorful butterflies. Home to indigenous communities that have inhabited these lands for generations, the Peruvian rainforest remains a treasure trove of natural wonders and cultural heritage, offering an unforgettable adventure for those seeking to immerse themselves in the untamed beauty and primal allure of this ecological wonderland.
After a short briefing, settle into your palm-thatched cabaña set within Peru's first ever private ecological reserve; established by Inkaterra in 1975, to protect this sensitive environment. After lunch, retreat to your rustic-luxury cabin for a nap or a swing in your hammock before choosing from the wide range of a-la-carte guided excursions with your expert Inkaterra Explorer Guide.
We recommend walking along the Trail System for an immersive introduction into the intricate biodiversity of the Amazon basin and the layers of the rainforest. Walk along towering trees, like the Shihuahuaco, as your ears tune in to the croaks, rustles and calls of the exotic wildlife inhabiting this rich ecosystem. There are excellent opportunities for birding and observing an abundance of flora. Keep your camera ready just in case sloths or monkeys appear on the treetops.

Return to Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica in time for lunch.
In the late afternoon, we highly recommend taking the gentle Twilight River excursion to witness the jungle transform from a diurnal to a nocturnal world: where daytime animals and birds give way to species specially adapted to the darkness of the night. The sunlight squeezes through the dense trees as jungle inhabitants awake from their slumber. Optionally join them in the early morning hours, with buffet breakfast served.
Visit Lake Sandoval this morning, a glassy, ox-bow lake located inside the protected Tambopata National Reserve, reached via a sun-dappled rainforest trail. Board a dug-out wooden canoe to quietly paddle through a stream and glide onto Lake Sandoval, flanked by picture-perfect palms. This serene lake is home to many species of birds, the endangered giant river otter, red howler monkeys, red-bellied macaws, anacondas, side-neck turtles, black caimans amongst others.

Return to Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica in time for lunch.
We recommend climbing the exhilarating Inkaterra Canopy Walkway. The Canopy Walkway is a sophisticated and safe network, distributed over seven ecologically constructed hanging suspension bridges, strung between eight treetop observation platforms above the forest floor. This is an unforgettable opportunity to observe the rainforest from the rooftop and gain a sense of its size. Ascend the first vertiginous tower 38 metres (124 feet) above ground, keeping an eye out for bright toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, monkeys and the three-toed sloth.
After descending, enjoy a 30-minute Anaconda Walk that follows a
200-meter (656 feet) raised wooden platform over a flooded aguajales swamp. In this lush ecosystem you may observe various species of amphibians, birds, mammals, abundant flora and interesting trees.

Welcome to the heart of the Inca civilization. Several sites tucked in the Sacred Valley await to be explored, from farmlands thriving with multicoloured potatoes and corn to the mystic villages of the highlands.
On your way to Cusco, you'll make a brief stop to get an understanding of the human history of the area at the ruins of Sacsayhuaman. It is believed that construction began here during the government of Inca Pachacutec in the 15th century. Supposedly, more than 20,000 men extracted the stones from the nearby quarries and moved it over 12 miles to the hill of the city of Cusco. How exactly did the Incas build Sacsayhuaman with stones of such an immense weight and size at the time? Many questions remain a mystery. Therein lies the beauty of this archaeological site and the Incan people.
