Day 6: Exploring Panama City!

Today you will get to know Panama City from its history to its cuisine.

👣
Private Tour of Ancon Hill & the Old Quarters

Begin your day with a tale of two Panamas. Go up by foot 200 meters above sea level at the Cerro Ancon for a spectacular 360 view of Panama City and the Canal. Here, your guide will explain important details of the modern history of Panama including a former presence and how it shaped Panama into the country we see today.

Our next stop visits the famous fish market where you will have a delicious ceviche tasting. This market was donated by the Japanese government in 1989 and opened its doors to the public in 1994. The idea was for local fishermen to greatly benefit from it and create a sustainable living for them and their families. Today the fish market is a must-stop when visiting Panama City.

Then continue to the picturesque Casco Viejo, commonly called the walled city. Casco Viejo was founded by the Spaniards in 1673 after the First City of Panama (Old Panama) was destroyed. Together with Old Panama, the Casco Viejo is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is appreciated worldwide for its unique historical and artistic value. The neighborhood’s character comes alive with a walk through its narrow cobblestoned streets. You will have the opportunity to appreciate this area’s beautiful colonial and neoclassical architecture, squares and monuments, while learning more about the history and culture of the city.

Visit the famous Santa Ana Park, which was used by the Spaniards in the 19th century as a place for celebrations and special events. Visit the famous café Coca-Cola built in 1875, the oldest café in Panama, where famous personalities have visited. Feel the vibe and get to know the places where the locals do their shopping and live their day-to-day lives.

Schedule: Pick up at your hotel in the city in the morning.
What To Bring: Comfortable clothing and shoes, sunglasses, camera, hat, sunscreen.
Duration: Approximately 4 hours
Includes: Transportation from and to the hotel, water, bilingual guide, ceviche tasting.
Note: The Ancon Hill can only be accessed by foot as no cars are allowed so you must walk up and back down.

Coffee Tasting

Panama is well known for the Panama Canal but, very few people know that this wonderful Central American country is also a top producer of some of the best coffee in the world. Produced in the highlands of the Chiriqui province between 1,500 and 1,900 meters above sea level the Geisha variety is the most expensive coffee in the world.

Today you will have the unique opportunity to learn about Panamanian coffee while exploring Panama City's Old Quarters and taste different varieties of coffee including the Geisha while your Barista explains its complexity.

🐒
Private Safari Jungle Boat Tour

Enjoy an ecological boat tour on Gatun Lake, a large manmade lake formed when the Gatun Dam was built across the Chagres River between 1907 and 1913. At the time of its creation, Gatun Lake was the largest artificial lake in the world, encompassing 430 square kilometers (166 sq mi). Today it remains an essential part of the Panama Canal system, carrying ships for 33 kilometers (21 mi) of their transit across the isthmus of Panama, and also generating crucial hydro-electricity for the operation of the Canal’s locks.

Gatun Lake is located within an immensely diverse tropical ecological zone and is surrounded by untouched exotic rainforest. Barro Colorado Island, the largest island on the lake, has been protected as a nature reserve by the U.S. Government since 1923 and is one of the most important sites of scientific study on tropical forests in the world.
