In March, Norway experiences the transition from winter to early spring, though much of the country is still in the grip of cold weather. Temperatures vary significantly depending on the region. In southern Norway, including cities like Oslo and Bergen, temperatures typically range from -2°C to 8°C (28°F to 46°F), with occasional snowfall and rain as the weather starts to warm slightly. Northern Norway, including places like Tromsø and the Lofoten Islands, remains colder, with temperatures ranging from -8°C to 3°C (17°F to 37°F), and snow still covering much of the landscape. The days begin to lengthen noticeably in March, with increasing daylight hours, which can reach around 11 to 12 hours by the end of the month. This is still a good time for winter activities such as skiing, dog sledding, and viewing the Northern Lights, especially in the northern regions, though the weather can vary and visitors should be prepared for both snow and rain.
US passport holders do not need a visa to travel to Norway for short tourist visits.
