In November, Tromsø, Norway offers a quintessential winter experience with its cold temperatures, scant daylight, and abundant snowfall. The city transforms into a picturesque winter wonderland, perfect for immersing yourself in the enchanting Polar Night, marveling at the ethereal Northern Lights, and partaking in the rich traditions of Nordic Christmas festivities. Average temperatures typically range from around -3°C to 2°C (27°F to 36°F), creating the ideal setting for cozy moments indoors and exhilarating adventures outdoors.

For US passport holders traveling to Norway for short stays (up to 90 days within a 180-day period) for tourism, business, or family visits, a visa is not required. However, your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure date from the Schengen area. It's also recommended to have at least two blank pages in your passport for stamps upon entry and exit.

• The local currency is the Krona (NOK).
  
• Not many places accept US Dollars (USD), but credit card use is very common, so cash is rarely needed.
  
• All hotels, restaurants, and shops accept major credit cards. If needed, you can exchange money at the airport or at a local bank.
  
• There are also ATMs in many places.

In Norway, tipping is not generally expected, as service charges are often included in the bill. Locals tend to tip sparingly compared to other countries, and tipping is more of a personal choice and less of a cultural norm. However, it is appreciated if you leave a small tip for excellent service. For example:

• Rounding up the bill or leaving around 10% in restaurants is a kind gesture but not mandatory.
  
• For excellent experiences for services such as full day guides, a small amount is a way to show appreciation for good service, but is not expected.
  
• Tipping private drivers and hotel staff in Norway is not typically expected, however if you want to leave a tip, a small amount is a nice gesture. Most locals don't tip in these situations.
  
• In taxis and for other services, rounding up is also common but not required.

From October to the end of January, whales visit the Norwegian coast.

With a small group of guests, you will depart from Djupvik Marina and head towards Skjervøy. Here, you will observe the gentle giants as they swim, feed, breach, and play around the boat. By joining a whale watching safari, you will also have the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent scenery, breathe in plenty of fresh sea air, and immerse yourself in our natural surroundings, which are sure to leave a lasting impression.

The most common whales spotted during the winter season are orcas, dolphins, and humpbacks. If you're lucky, you might also catch a glimpse of the fin whales!
