December 20th - 22nd: Oslo (2 nights)
December 22nd - 27th: Tromsø (5 nights)
In January, temperatures typically range from about -5°C to -1°C (23°F to 30°F). The days are very short, with the Polar Night in effect, meaning the sun doesn’t rise above the horizon. Instead, you get a few hours of twilight each day. Snow is common, and the city often experiences a winter wonderland with snow-covered landscapes. The chances of seeing the Northern Lights are high due to the long nights and generally clear skies.
Welcome to Oslo, where modern elegance meets Nordic charm. Norway's capital seamlessly blends cutting-edge architecture with natural beauty. Wander through Vigeland Park, adorned with captivating sculptures, or explore the trendy Grünerløkka district, pulsating with art and vibrant cafes. Join the Sami for an unforgettable reindeer experience. The reindeer and the Sami have been living and working on this land for centuries and have only recently invited guests to be part of their life. The Reindeer Camp is located a 30-minute drive from Tromsø city centre and here you can feed the herd of around 200 reindeer who will swarm all around and even eat from your hands. After some explanation about reindeer sledding, you go on a short sled ride. The reindeer live wild for most of the year and are at the camp for a few months over winter to protect them from predators and harsh conditions. You'd therefore only do a short sled ride not to work the reindeer too hard.
You will then be invited inside a gamme (a traditional Sami hut) where you will be served hot drinks and a traditional Sami meal, which will be cooked over the fire. Afterwards, you will be invited into a lavvu (Sami herdsmen’s tent) to gather round the fire and listen to stories about Sami culture, life as a reindeer herder and a joik (traditional Sami song).
Please bring warm underwear, scarf, gloves and hat.
