Packing List

New Zealand in the Summer can get chilly in the evenings so wear layers.

When spending extended periods outdoors, wear sunscreen and sunglasses to protect against New Zealand's high UV levels.

We suggest bringing:

  • Jumper/hoodie
  • Warm jacket
  • Waterproof jacket/rain gear
  • Sturdy shoes
  • Jandals/flip-flops/sandals
  • Small backpack
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses & sunhat
  • Insect repellent
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Swimsuit
  • Sun protection

New Zealand’s sun is very strong, so you can quickly become sunburnt. Use sun protection from September to April between 10am and 4pm, even on cloudy days.

  • Wear a shirt, hat, and sunglasses.
  • Use SPF 30+ sunscreen.
  • Seek shade, where possible.

In summer, the MetService weather forecast includes a daily UV forecast.

Day 3: Bungee Jumping!
πŸ—»
Bungee Jump Nevis Peak

Set into the rugged Otago landscape 45mins from downtown Queenstown, the Nevis site is located up a private road and is only accessible by specialty 4x4 vehicles. You will be transported up a steep gravel road gaining just a peak at the dramatic drop along the way. Despite being so close to Queenstown, you are up in the high-country meaning that you have a feeling of remoteness that only heightens your experience.

There is no public access to this location, so everyone on site is there for one reason and one reason only – to go big or go home.

This experience includes two jumps available at The Nevis:

  • Nevis Swing: Forwards, backwards, alone or with a friend, you will be suspended high above the valley floor and be released! Experience a massive rush of adrenaline as you find yourself accelerating through the valley at mind blowing speeds in a 300m (984ft) arc.
  • Nevis Bungy: If you want to do the biggest, here it is - 134m (439ft) above the rugged Nevis River. With 8.5 seconds of falling, the ground rush is like no other. Climb aboard a cable car, you can see through the floor down to the valley below and feel every tiny gust of wind. Next, arrive at our Jump Pod which is dramatically suspended by high wires between two canyons.

Afternoon At Leisure

Upon return to your hotel, take the afternoon to relax at your leisure and soak in the incredible views and atmosphere of your lakeside villa.

πŸ’«
Billion Star Dining

This unique experience begins with a "trust the chef" 4-course dining experience at Moraine Lodge.

Dinner is followed by a fun and informative stargazing experience at the Pukaki Observatory. The purpose-built observatory and adjoining wine cellar began from the concept of an underground space. Its thick concrete walls maintain the cool temperature needed to cellar the wines, and the sitting area in the cellar allows us to share a welcome drink with guests while we introduce the Southern sky and the spectacular stargazing experience to come.

The observatory itself features a retractable roof and a 6-inch refractor telescope. When the roof recedes, the observatory walls frame a breathtaking window to the stars. The telescope can sight the rings of Saturn and bands of Jupiter, as well as sparkling star clusters, nebula and planets.

The Retreat’s setting in the heart of the Dark Sky Reserve makes it an ideal location for astrophotography. If you're lucky, you may also get a glimpse of the Southern Lights, or Aurora Australis.
