Upon your arrival at Queenstown Airport, collect your rental cars and drive to Queenstown.

The Queenstown Backcountry Snowshoeing trip takes you into the Remarkables backcountry. This terrain is normally only visited by backcountry skiers and mountaineers in the winter season, but with the use of snow shoes you can easily travel across deep snow and through mountain terrain. From backcountry areas we visit you will have mind-blowing views of the mountains of New Zealand’s Southern Alps. On a clear day it is possible to get views of Mt Aspiring, Mt Cook, and the Fiordland mountains.

Day 4: Milford Sound and Arrowtown

Sit back and relax and take in the stunning views as you ride the Skyline Queenstown Gondola - the steepest cable car lift in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the must-do activities in Queenstown! You’ll be carried 450 metres above Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu to the top of Bob's Peak, where you’ll enjoy the best views in the region unfolding before your eyes. You get to experience a spectacular 220 degree panorama with breath-taking views of Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Walter and Cecil Peak and, of course, Queenstown.

Ride the Skyline Gondola to the top of Bob’s Peak for a fantastic zipline canopy tour! The perfect starter to your adventure experience in Queenstown. The Moa tour consists of four ziplines, starting and finishing at the top of the Skyline Gondola. The Moa is designed to start low and slow and gradually build your confidence as it gets progressively longer, higher and faster.

  • Departure Point: The Ziptrek Tree House is located to the left once you exit the building at the top of the gondola, just past the heli-pad and it will be on your left as you walk down the track.

Day 5: Head to Wanaka

Take to the skies and experience this magical land from above.

Milford Sound Flight and Cruise

Milford Sound is an area of extraordinary beauty. It offers a majestic fiord, dramatic and awe-inspiring scenery and prolific flora and fauna.

After check-in completion, your pilot will give a thorough pre-flight briefing on the route and scenic highlights likely to be encountered. These include the famous Skippers Canyon, the Paradise region (recently made popular as film locations for Lord of the Rings/Hobbit Trilogies), and the Donne glacier among many other awe-inspiring features. Your 35-minute flight concludes with an overflight of the fiord of Milford Sound, prior to landing.

The second half of the adventure begins in Milford Sound, where your pilot personally escorts you to the boat docks to board the “Spirit of Milford” to enjoy your Milford Sound Nature Cruise. Numbers aboard are capped at 150 passengers and on this intimate experience, Nature Guides offer a personal commentary. The “Spirit of Milford” catamaran explores nooks and crannies along the edge of the fiord, nudging into sheer rock faces to examine flora and fauna in detail.

Following your Milford Sound cruise, your return flight takes in many of the pristine alpine lakes and waterfalls that Fiordland National Park is recognised for, including the Sutherland Falls which span 580 m (1900 ft).

Mao Wahu

Take the whole family on a cruise to the remote Mou Waho Island nature reserve, home of the lake, on an island, in a lake (on an island). Enjoy a velvet smooth ride as you cruise among the majestic mountains of Lake Wanaka.

Mou Waho Island is a predator free Department of Conservation nature reserve with a natural glacial formed lake at its summit. Here you can see first-hand results of conservation efforts including the rare flightless Buff Weka (extinct on the mainland since 1920), the Mountain Stone Weta and many other native birds.

A two hour guided nature walk is included, taking you up to the natural glacial lake right on top of the island and magnificent mountain and lake scenery in every direction. This is rated as one of the top activities by visitors to Wanaka and rated among the best Wanaka walks and hikes.

From there our guide will take you even higher to the lookout rock for some of the regions most spectacular views and the outstanding photo opportunities.

Get up close and personal with Mt Aspiring (Tititea) and its pristine glaciers on our most popular and diverse scenic helicopter flight. Your one-hour tour includes two high-altitude alpine landings with plenty of time for photos and to enjoy being completely immersed in a remote alpine wilderness! Mount Aspiring is the highest peak outside of the Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park and extremely popular for National and International mountain climbers. Due to its pyramid shape and dominance of the landscape, it is often referred to as the “Matterhorn of the South”. It is the pinnacle of the National Park and sits at the junction of three major glaciers, which are spectacular in their own right. This region is famous for its hanging and valley glaciers.

On your helicopter tour, you will discover some of the highlights of New Zealand’s third-largest National Park, Mt Aspiring. Together with Fiordland, Westland, and Mt Cook, it forms an integral part of the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage area. Lavender Farm

By the time winter comes around the blooming fields of lavender have taken their leave until the frosty weather is over. So though there aren’t any flowers to see during this season visitors still find joy in exploring Wānaka Lavender Farm and appreciate its dormant beauty. Our giant games are scattered throughout, so whether it’s clear blue skies or a rainy afternoon, you can always have a little fun with those.

Only during this season can our guests hand-feed our adorable alpacas and sheep. So come by and say hi to our awaiting resident animals. They love seeing new faces!

Another perk of winter is that the crisp days provide for some cosy time by the fireplace, sipping on a steaming lavender drinking chocolate. This warming beverage is the star of the season in our tearoom, and will only be available for the winter months. We have an array of other teas and lavender treats to enjoy as well. And our honey tasting will still be open for those still wanting a taste of summer.

Day 8: Ski Treblecone

Treble Cone is the largest ski area in the South Island and boasts an outstanding view over Lake Wanaka. With its long, sweeping runs and plenty of variety, this is the perfect resort for families and friends who are wanting to push themselves a bit more on the snow.

  • To avoid on-mountain queues, check-in to Cardrona’s Wanaka office (50 Cardrona Valley Road, Wanaka) before your first day on the mountain. You will receive an electronic card valid at Treble Cone with all your ski products loaded onto it, allowing you to proceed straight to the lifts upon arrival at the mountain.
  • Treble Cone (on mountain) check-in: If you do not collect your pass in Wanaka or Queenstown before your first day skiing, check-in to the ticket office on the mountain in the morning on your first day of skiing. This will allow ample time to organise your pass.
