Whilst Tokyo & Kyoto will be the bedrock of any itinerary, we also recommend spending time exploring other smaller cities, as well as the Japanese countryside.

In Japan there is a very efficient way to send luggage from Point A to Point B called Takkyubin. Typically it takes 24 hours, so if you wanted your luggage to be there on arrival you would send it the day prior. This can be handy if you want to travel light, or if there may be limited luggage space on the train. If you wish to utilize this service your guide can help facilitate this through the respective hotel concierge.

There are no experiences arranged for this afternoon. From Hidatei Hanaougi it's a short 7 minute shuttle to the Takayama Historical Center. A staff member will be on hand to help facilitate check in at your ryokan, and to also make suggestions for this afternoon.

Visit one of Takayama’s two asaichi, or morning markets (one is located along the Miyagawa River and the other near Takayama Jinya). The morning markets are a delight for the senses, with scores of stalls selling local fruits, vegetables, pickles, herbs, spices, and other culinary ingredients, as well as local handicrafts sourced from Takayama’s renowned timber.
