In May, French Polynesia experiences warm and pleasant weather with temperatures ranging from the mid-70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit (24-30°C). It's the dry season, so rainfall is generally lower, though occasional showers are possible, especially in mountainous areas. Humidity levels can be high in coastal regions. Water temperatures are warm for swimming and water activities, averaging around 80-84°F (27-29°C). Expect plenty of sunshine and blue skies, making it an ideal time for outdoor activities and beach vacations across the various islands of French Polynesia.

In this same time period, Japan experiences a transition from spring to early summer. The weather is generally mild and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from around 60 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit (15-24 degrees Celsius) across different regions of the country. May is known for its comfortable weather, making it a popular time for travel. Rainfall varies, with some regions experiencing occasional showers, especially in the first half of the month. Cherry blossoms are in full bloom at the beginning of May in many parts of the country, creating a picturesque scene.

US Passport holders do not need a visa to visit French Polynesia or Japan.
