Delightful Pitigliano rises out of the Tufa rock amidst beautiful countryside, has a labyrinth of medieval lanes, a Jewish quarter and fascinating Etruscan ruins. More sights are in nearby Sovana with a 12th-century cathedral and Etruscan tomb, and Sorano with its Orsini fortress. Then dip in Saturnia’s healing sulphuric waterfalls which gush out at 37 degrees.

This is a day of relaxation, but should you wish to add an experience, we recommend a boating activity. This can either take place in the early morning or in the afternoon.

Perched like a stork’s nest on top of a hill, Taormina is as ancient as it is beguiling. The maze of tiny corridors are as irresistible as the most charming Italian towns, but none of the others come with Taormina’s panoramic bombshell.
