Restaurant recommendations

Here are a few of our favorite places to eat in Lake Como – you may request reservations with your hotel Concierge:

  • Il Beccaccino is nestled amidst the vibrant hues and fragrances of the Pian di Spagna protected reserve. This eco-friendly restaurant on Lake Como, situated in the charming village of Sorico, is a must-visit for enthusiasts of both nature and exquisite cuisine. Originally the chef's familial residence, the restaurant seamlessly integrates with its environment following a transformation. It has a floating open bar as well.
  • Figli Dei Fiori Bistrot is a beautifully chic, flower-filled eatery specializing in high-end dining in a relaxed yet elegant setting.

Featuring a panoramic stone terrace and a snug lounge enveloped by palms and flowers, it's a place where you might chance upon encounters with celebrities.
  • Crotto Valdurino is a local tavern built partially within a cave. Open since 1882 and still run by the same historical family, it used to be a freezer cellar where food was stacked. Located in Vergonzano, a district in the secluded village of Moltrasio, it’s a no-frills place with a homey, sleepy vibe and great lake views; offering rustic cuisine.
  • La Darsena has a beautiful terrace overlooking the waters and the mountains beyond, it is the perfect place to enjoy a seasonal menu that is constantly changing, and features creatively reinterpreted local dishes.
  • Trattoria del Porto has great views of the lake! Situated on the outskirts of Careno village, this enchanting stone cottage by the lake exudes a dreamy and timeless charm, nestled in one of the serene and less-explored corners of Lake Como.
  • I Tigli in Theoria is a 1 Michelin-star restaurant in Como’s ancient district. Located in Renaissance Palazzo del Vescovo, formerly the bishop’s residence, it boasts an internal courtyard with a garden, columned porches, frescoes and coffered ceilings.

🚣
Venice

Visit Venice the right way and you can’t help but fall in love.

The majesty of San Marco Square and the Rialto Bridge is drowned out by the crowds and tacky souvenir shops, but a more authentic and mysterious Venice is just outside of the tourist center.

Put down your phone’s map and wander the labyrinthine alleyways, discovering the neighborhoods still lived in by locals with their artisan shops, low-key cicchetti bars, and cozy restaurants overlooking the canals.

A few highlights you may enjoy are:

🎭
Exploring Venice

Venice is the perfect place for independent exploration and the most fun comes from wandering the alleyways and waterways, getting lost and seeing where you end up!

If you'd like some must-see recommendations to help guide your exploration, a few of our favourites are:

  • Grand Canal is one of the most pictured sights in Italy. It is the largest canal in Venice and is perfect for taking a picture, grabbing a gelato and walking along or grabbing a gondola and floating down the canal to explore from the water.
  • Rialto Bridge, on the Grand Canal, is the oldest bridge on the canal and is a great spot to look over the canal, as well as take some pictures.
  • Piazza San Marco is the main square in Venice. Here you'll find St Mark's Basilica and Campanile, as well as Doge's Palace. This is the most popular spot in Venice so expect long queues if you want to head inside.
  • Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute is the iconic domed church you see in many pictures. It's a quieter part of Venice, and if you head here for sunset or in the evening, you may come across tango lessons on the steps which is a magical experience!
  • Jewish Quarter is often overlooked, but it's steeped in history and a fascinating place to explore to learn more about the area and Venice's Jewish history. The area features shops, cafes and art galleries.
  • The Lido is easily accessible by ferry or water taxi, and is a great place to escape the crowds and explore another side to Venice. It features long sandy beaches, so great for spending warm days relaxing!
  • Peggy Guggenheim Museum is a wonderful collection of contemporary art housed in an 18th-century aristocratic property with a terrace that looks out onto the Grand Canal, which Peggy made her home for over thirty years until her death in 1979.
🌺
Venetian Perfume

Often overlooked, Venice has a fascinating history of perfumery from merchants bringing back precious spices, fragrant oils, and resins.

A wonderful experience here is to enjoy a masterclass at a top perfumery to create your own signature scent, learning the history of perfume in Venice along the way. It's a lovely memento to bring home with you that is fully designed by you!

This is a recommendation only - no bookings have been made.

🚲
Lio Piccolo

If you're looking for something different and to avoid the crowds, we recommend heading to Lio Picollo - the Venetian Lagoon.

It's a great place to spend the afternoon slowly cycling across the sandbanks and lagoons of the Veneto islands.

Here the landscape is characterized by vegetable gardens, some isolated houses surrounded by canals, lagoons, and fishing valleys: the perfect location for pink flamingos. The cycle route here is easy but very relaxing and you can get some great pictures.

You can take a ferry from Fondamente Nove stop to Treporti, then you can rent a bike, book a bike tour, walk or take a taxi.

This is a recommendation only - no bookings have been made.

🍸
6pm - Ombre and Cicchetti

The ultimate Venetian history & food experience, learn about Venice's exciting history, admire the major landmarks, and enjoy a bite of authentic Venetian flavor!

Escorted by a private specialized English-speaking guide, admire St Mark's square, Doge's Palace, and learn about the lavish banquets and balls held at the time of the Doges. Enjoy an insider's view of contemporary Venice by visiting the charming Rialto Market, Venice's main grocery market.

Enjoy the bustling atmosphere and explore the spectacular fish market located beneath a neo-gothic loggia.

Follow your guide across quiet footbridges and through the maze of cobblestone-paved back alleys to discover a quintessential part of real Venetians' life, the small rustic bacari, typical 'neighborhood' bars where locals indulge in cicchetti and tapas style bites.

  • Meeting Location: Hotel Lobby
  • Departure Time: Early evening
  • Duration: 2 hrs
  • Inclusions: Visiting 3 different taverns with 2 cicheti (tapas) and a glass of wine (ombra), per person, per tavern.

Apericena

This is one of our favorite things to do in Italy, combining "aperitivo" and "cena" (dinner). There are certain bars that offer a fair amount of bites to eat with drinks, either free of charge, with a small fee or à la carte, depending on whether you are there for an aperitif. It's a way to experience the city like a local!
