With an uncanny sense of foresight, Rome was first called the Eternal City 2,000 years ago. Even by today’s standards, it’s still grand in a way that few other places can compare to. The buildings are dilapidated and the roads disheveled, but chaos has never looked so exquisite. The cobblestone streets may be nonsensical, but a wrong turn always leads to an unexpected delight: an intimate piazza, a baroque fountain, or a homey trattoria serving house-made cacio e pepe.

Our expert foodie guides, well versed in Italian cuisine, lead you beyond pizza and pasta to hidden gems, steering clear of tourist traps. Nowhere in Italy mixes landscape, culture, and history quite like Sicily. In the span of a day, you can hike a spewing volcano, go for a swim in the crystalline sea, take photos of Baroque architecture, and gawk at ruins so old that they make the Colosseum look young. Even Sicilian cuisine is something unique, where couscous is as common as pasta and gelato isn’t served in a cup or a cone but rather a freshly baked brioche bun—the ultimate ice cream sandwich.

Noto is one of Sicily’s most beautiful baroque cities, whose heritage, both for importance and beauty, has been declared World Heritage by the UNESCO.
In Sicily, the traditional breakfast is granita, the Sicilian version of sorbet. The best place for granita (and gelato and pastries) is Caffe Sicilia—learn more about it by watching the Chef's Table episode on Netflix!
Caffe Sicilia is a short walk from the hotel.
Walk to Palazzo Castelluccio, an authentically restored and still inhabited 18th-century Sicilian palace. Palazzo Castelluccio, belonging to one of the oldest families in Noto, was built in 1782 by the Marquis di Lorenzo del Castelluccio after the earthquake of 1693 which partly destroyed the region.
The façade of the Palace, on Via Cavour, does not have the same baroque style used for the reconstruction of the main buildings of the city, but instead reflects the neo-classical taste popular in the late 18th century, which can be found in the well-preserved frescoes on the ceilings and walls of the main first floor. The scenset Sicilian ceramic floors have all been protected.

Perched like a stork’s nest on top of a hill, Taormina is as ancient as it is beguiling. The maze of tiny corridors are as irresistible as the most charming Italian towns, but none of the others come with Taormina’s panoramic bombshell. The Ancient Greeks built their amphitheater facing south toward the sun, a seemingly strange oversight. But once you’re standing on the steps and taking in the view of Mt. Etna and the Ionian Sea, it’s clear the Greeks knew exactly what they were doing.
Explore this rich and fascinating city, once one of the major powers of the ancient Greek world, which bears traces of its Roman and Byzantine heritage as well.
Visit the remarkable Greek remains, including the Temple of Apollo, which later became a Byzantine church and then an Arab mosque; the impressive Greek theater; and the fabled Fountain of Arethusa.
Stroll through the city’s picturesque winding streets and elegant piazzas, and admire the treasures on the island of Ortigia—the historical center—including its great cathedral, built on the Athena Temple, medieval and Baroque buildings.
Syracuse and Ortigia are on the way to Taormina, in case we want to stop in these cities on the way.
Enjoy a walking tour of Taormina and its Greek theater, remarkable both for its incredible state of preservation and for its breathtaking view of the Gulf of Naxos and Mount Etna. Visit the antiquarium, where Greek inscriptions testify to the city’s ancient scenset.

If you’ve never heard of the Spanish island of Menorca, then the locals would probably consider that a success. The Mediterranean paradise is known for its authentic Menorquín culture, locally-sourced gastronomy, and secluded beaches, especially when compared to its much more popular neighbors, Mallorca and Ibiza. While the other islands spent decades catering to big resorts and tourists, Menorca did just the opposite, meaning more virgin beaches and opportunities to disconnect.
Menorca wouldn't be done right without a day of cruising over crystal waters, past secluded rocky coves and powder-sand beaches. Spend the full day aboard a private boat with your captain, and explore the rugged coast, stop at any sandy cove you wish, and forget about time and space. Snorkels and stand-up paddle boards are available on board for you to use! You'll stay on board through the sunset, enjoying a delicious meal grilled on the boat and drinks throughout the day.
This high-brow art gallery from renowned Hauser & Wirth is located on the tiny Isla del Rey inside the Mahón port. It's a beautiful setting with incredible art pieces, plus an on-site restaurant that's a true gem. Also on the island is an 18th-century hospital you can tour from Menorca's days as a British colony.
It's free to visit the gallery, but you need to purchase roundtrip ferry tickets. Ferries depart every 30 minutes from Mahón.
Hop inside of a kayak and head out into the Mediterranean. Paddle around to coves and sea caves that are otherwise inaccessible, and get an arm workout while you're at it.
Take a visit to the Cova d'en Xoroi, hands down one of the coolest bars you'll ever see. It's built into the side of a cave overlooking the Mediterranean, perfect for taking some pictures while enjoying a cocktail or two. Enjoy live music while watching the sunset!
