- It is respectful to dress modestly, especially in predominantly Muslim areas by covering shoulders, upper arms and knees. You may wish to wear traditional Indonesian attire like batik shirts or kebayas for formal occasions if this applies.
- Comfortable footwear that can be easily removed, like sandals, is recommended.
- Carrying rain gear, such as a light rain jacket or umbrella, is advisable for unexpected showers.
- Casual and informal wear is widely accepted, but adapting to local norms is recommended, particularly in more conservative areas where covering shoulders and knees may be appreciated.
- Additionally, sun protection, including hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen, is important in the tropical sun.
Indonesians are very easygoing and would rarely tell you if you are doing something that offends them.
However, here are a few things to think about while you are in Indonesia:
- Do not give or take anything with your left hand, as the left hand is considered impure.
- Do not touch children's heads, as this part of the body is considered to be the home of the human soul.
- Do not blow your nose while eating. It is best to get up and step away from the table.
- In the busy center, keep your shirt on (unless on the beach of course)
- Hands-on hips are a sign of defiance, especially when talking to someone
- Ask questions. When visiting a religious site, taking part in a religious practice, or simply touring a town, ask lots of questions to your Indonesian guides and friends. Indonesians are incredibly proud of their culture and are happy to share. This is also true if you are not sure how to act or feel uncomfortable in a situation – ask questions to make sure you are following proper Indonesian etiquette.

After meeting the guide you'll drive about 50 minutes to Besakih Temple. Besakih Temple is considered to be the most important and holiest temple in Bali. Located at an altitude of about 1000 meters above sea level on the southwestern slope of the sacred Agung volcano.
This ‘Mother Temple’ is the largest temple, built along two parallel ridges and together they make up a series of six consecutive terraces and staircases that lead the Hindu devotees up to the main spire (or Meru structure); which is called Pura Penataran Agung. The symbolic center of the main sanctuary is the lotus throne.
It is the ritual focus of the entire complex. All this is aligned along a single axis and designed to lead the spiritual person upward and closer to the mountain which is considered sacred To the Balinese, visiting the temple sanctuaries is a special pilgrimage.

Today you will see the sunrise from Mount Batur. Get ready with warm clothes and gloves. The transfer is about a one and a half hour drive to start the trek. The first 1.5 hours of trekking is on an easier pathway where you will get to the rim at around 5:30 am. Then enjoy your light-packed breakfast which will be brought from the hotel and enjoy a coffee or tea.
After your quick meal, continue to a 30-minute ascending trek to reach the peak which will be reached at around 6:00 am to catch the sunrise over the horizon and panoramic view of the area. You will have a chance to see the neighboring mountains of Mt. Agung and Mt. Abang. Occasionally you can see Rinjani Mountain in good weather.

This full-day tour explores mountains, lakes, and rice terraces, including driving, walking, and canoeing. You will first travel to the Lake District, a region of great natural beauty in the central highlands about 1500 m elevation above sea level. Your first destination is Lake Beratan, the largest of the three volcanic lakes in the heart of Bali, about 50 km north of Denpasar. We visit ‘Pura Ulun’, the temple on the western shore that is devoted to the goddess of the lake.
One of the iconic images that can be seen in every Bali travel guide is a picture of the ‘Pura Ulun Danu Beratan’, the temple on the western shore that is devoted to the goddess of the lake. She is revered as the goddess controlling the water distribution and irrigation system of Bali. The temple was built in 1633 and in its particular setting, it offers an image of stunning beauty that no one will forget.
Then continue to drive north to visit Tamblingan Lake, where you will take a short walk down a path of concrete stairs to a dense rain forest, strolling through canopy trees while listening to singing birds. The walk will then finish in the middle of the jungle.
Get onboard a dugout canoe and start canoeing around the lake while enjoying a great view of two volcanoes around you. Head to the west bank to visit the sacred spring, only accessible by water. Continue canoeing to reach Gubug village where a car will be waiting. Drive to your hotel. On the way back, if time allows, visit the botanical garden.
