The capital of India, Delhi is home to 16 million people, making it the third largest city in India. The strategic location of the city made it an attractive location for invading armies, and it served as the capital for many great empires that ruled India. Many of these Empires built significant monuments, and whilst the Mughal and the British are the most visible, while driving through the city you will see ruins from previous capitals, the earliest dating back to the 12th century.
Reminiscent of a 19th-century Indian Palace, in the land of Maharajas and Maharanis, The Imperial New Delhi was opened in 1936 as the first hotel in New Delhi. One of the Grand Dames of the East, its architecture has subtle traces of Victorian, Art Deco and Lutyens styles. White marble colonnades, verdant gardens and rooms & suites replete with Italian marble floors, polished Burma teak, Persian hand-knotted carpets, antique Chandeliers and Rosewood furniture, set the tone.
Your honeymoon truly begins today as you start off with an exciting look into the bustling city of New Delhi!
Meet your private guide today and embark on an overview tour of the city of Delhi.
In the morning you depart for the Humayun’s Tomb. One of the earliest examples of a Mughal Garden Tomb, this mausoleum was designed by a Persian architect, and provided the prototype for future tombs, including the Taj Mahal. Recently taken over by the Agha Khan Trust, the gardens have been restored to their former glory, and the tomb and surrounding monuments restored. You drive along the tree lined avenues of the New City built by the British. The drive takes you past the houses of Parliaments, the India Gate and the jewel of this architectural collection – the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the presidential Palace.
You will visit the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, the temple of the Sikhs. Their turbans and beards make the men easily identifiable with the sect. Sikhism developed as an antithesis to the caste ridden and ritualistic forms of Hinduism and developed as a simple religion whose foundation was “sewa” – socially responsibility irrespective of a person’s social standing. Thus every Sikh Temple has the famous community kitchen, where it is considered a privilege to assist cooking the food and serving a simple meal to pilgrim and visitors.

Enjoy one last tour today in Delhi before heading off to your next stop in Agra.
After breakfast and check-out this morning, meet your private guide for a tour in Old Delhi.
In the morning you will tour the Old City which is a part of a 17th century planned city, now known as Old Delhi or Shahjahanabad, built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. This was one of the world’s largest cities. Today Old Delhi, though cluttered and neglected, is an extraordinary area to explore. You will stop at the Jama Masjid or the Friday Mosque believed to be the largest mosque in India and dominates the skyline of the old city.
You will take a cycle rickshaw starting from the Red Fort and will explore the labyrinthine lanes of the Chandni Chowk market. This is one of Delhi’s oldest markets. As you travel through the narrow lanes, each side a riot of colors as bangles, textiles, silver, jewelry, spices and wedding accessories spill out of shops. Imagine this as a rather chaotic department store, each lane dedicated to an item.

Afterwards, you will return to your hotel for breakfast before departing for Ranthambore.
Covering 410 sq. km, Ranthambore runs along the easternmost spur of the Aravalli to the Vindhya ranges. At one time, Ranthambore was the private hunting ground for a royal family, before it was declared a sanctuary and finally in 1972 as brought under the Project Tiger scheme. The dry deciduous forest covers open valleys with lush vegetation around the lakes, and open grasslands in the higher slopes. This varied flora supports a large number of animals including a variety of deer, the sloth bear, the shy caracal, leopards and of course, the tiger.
With ruins of palaces, cenotaphs and follies dotted around the jungle, now inhabited by its wild denizens, with the tiger at the apex, it is a spectacular wildlife haven. Sher Bagh evokes nostalgic sensibilities of life on safari during the heydays of an era celebrated for its art de vivre, living elegantly under canvas, whilst on safari. With crackling campfires under starlit skies, sumptuous Anglo-Indian repasts using homegrown organic produce, coupled with old-world service, the camp epitomises life on safari as it ought to be lived. Crackling campfires under star-lit skies, naturalists to share the facts of the forest, it’s a place where comfort, style and an unmatchable commitment to conservation meet. With over 40 years of experience, Sher Bagh’s guides and trackers are the best in the business. Their incredible knowledge of the park and the behaviour of its star inhabitant, the tiger, together with their passionate enthusiasm, make a stay here unparalleled.
Head off on a riveting game drive in search of the elusive Bengal Tiger. This incredible safari will give you the opportunity to possibly see one of these majestic beasts (if you're lucky!) as well as the other unique inhabitants of Ranthambhore National Park.

After breakfast and check-out this morning and possibly one final morning game drive, you will journey off to your next stop in Jaipur.
A labyrinth of fascinating bazaars, opulent palaces and a futuristic observatory, Jaipur was the inspiration of a ruler, who moved the capital from Amber in 1727. Jaipur was designed by a young architect and together they planned a city along the ancient Hindu treatise of “Shilpa Shastra”, a science similar to the better known Feng Shui. Jaipur is laid out in a geometric grid of streets and squares making it one of the earliest planned cities in India. In honor of the visit of a royal, the City was painted a rich terracotta, a tradition which has continued through the years. This is the reason why Jaipur is often called the “pink city”. Today it serves as the State capital for Rajasthan.
You will visit the sprawling City Palace which, painted pink in keeping with the color theme of the old city, is a blend of predominately Rajput and Mughal styles of architecture.
You will visit the museums and then will have a private tour of the ceremonial rooms of the palace which will include the stunning mirror room and the rich gold and red room which were used to entertain visitors. You continue through the wedge wood blue balcony where you will be served champagne and canapés.
After the private visit, you stop at the ornate Mubarak Palace, which is part of the complex, to see the excellent collection of textiles.
You will then visit the extraordinary “Jantar Mantar”, the astronomical observatory built by Raja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1827. This is one of five observatories he built in northern India. The instruments resembling massive futuristic structures are actually highly sophisticated instruments.
which are accurate even today.

After your tour, you will be brought to your hotel for the rest of the afternoon and evening at leisure.
An urban oasis in the historic walled city of Jaipur, Samode Haveli is a traditional Indian mansion set in a verdant garden with apartments arranged around a series of intimate courtyards. Built 225 years ago as a residence of the rulers of Samode, it is still occupied by their descendants, who have converted their home into a luxury hotel.
In the morning, you'll visit the stunning Amber Fort. The Rajputs built their forts on high hills and ridges, giving them a 360-degree view of the surrounding area and protecting them from invading armies. Most of the forts they built were defensive structures but also included pleasure palaces, rich in art and architectural features. Amber is perhaps among the finest of all the fort palaces and reflected the opulence and elegance of the nearby Mughal courts.
From the fort, you'll begin a walk through the narrow alleys of the settlements surrounding it. You'll explore these lanes, stopping at tea shops serving local snacks, a beautifully carved temple, and a traditional stepwell, among other sites along the way. It's a great way to observe life in a very historic area of Jaipur. Amber is part of the city, yet the rhythms of life here are slower and much more traditional than in nearby Jaipur.
On the walk, you'll visit the Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing. The museum aims to address the challenges facing this traditional printing style—the biggest competitor being modern manufacturing units. It does this primarily through educating museum visitors and textile specialists.
Its important and unique role is with the artisans themselves, encouraging them to visit and view their handicraft in an inspirational way. You can have a hands-on experience at the museum.
In the afternoon, a curated walk introduces you to the living traditions of the walled city. It showcases the arts and artisans, traditional medicine practitioners, and the small, exquisite architectural jewels tucked away in the lanes and shrines and temples, most over 300 years old. It highlights the old-world lifestyle, a contrast to the glitzy malls and modern homes of the city outside the walls. You'll walk through the textile market with vibrant silks, cottons, and chiffons spilling out. As part of your Old City experience, you'll explore this craft, moving away from the traditional tourist areas and into the old city, where artisans work on the famous meenakari (enamel work) and Kundankari (inlay work with gems) traditions of the area. You will also stop at Gopal Ki Rasta, famous for its wholesale bead market. You'll visit a fourth-generation craftsperson specializing in the art of “Neelgar (Tie dye)” and one of the few remaining within the walled city who makes the specialized “Leheriya” pattern. You'll visit their residence where the family works on tie and dye and have a hands-on session selecting your own colors and making your own bespoke scarf.

It is said that the ghost of Udaipur looks towards Chittorgarh, for it was after the tragic fall of that fort, that Udaipur, a fairy tale city of marble palaces and lakes came into existence. The City was founded by a ruler in 1559 and became the capital of the region of Mewar. The rulers of Mewar trace their dynasty to AD 566 and believe they are the defenders of Rajput honor. Unlike other Rajput royal families, this was a fiercely independent clan who refused to enter into matrimonial alliances with the Mughals or military alliances with the British. The city is dominated by the massive City Palace which overlooks the lovely Lake Pichola with its romantic island palaces.
Constructed between 1743-1746, Jag Niwas was used as a summer retreat by the Mewar Royal family for many years until it was converted into a heritage hotel in 1963. A jewel floating in the middle of Lake Pichola, Taj Lake Palace is a marble building. The marble was locally sourced and brought to Udaipur by bullock carts. This heritage hotel in Udaipur features 65 luxurious rooms and 18 grand suites. Its architecture is influenced by Mughal styles, primarily using Mewari techniques. Restored to its pristine glory, this spectacular palace gained worldwide recognition after being featured in the James Bond film ‘Octopussy’. It served as the secluded lair of the film’s Bond Girl.
In the afternoon, take a walk with your private guide in the old city. Sharing space with cows, elephants, and people, the walk through the winding lanes is an interesting insight into lifestyles in what is referred to as “small town India”. Shops selling a variety of items, unexpected folk art decorating the walls of houses and small architectural gems like a latticed work Haveli window.
You stop to see the artisans. A four hundred year old art, Glass inlay was exclusively crafted for the rulers of Udaipur, using mirrors and glass to capture the rays of the sun. A skill passed down orally, only very few families practice this painstaking and time consuming art, moving out of the confines of the palaces and taking their skills to private homes, temples and hotels. Today the art has expanded to Mughal and Rajput styles, but the method stays as work intensive and delicately skillful, using the same style of tools as 400 years ago.

Today, you'll visit the City Palace. The detailed art and workmanship is a tribute to the skills of local artisans and craftspeople. Built as a stepped palace encompassing a hill, the four palaces illustrate various architectural styles, reflecting prevailing influences, mostly Mughal and Rajput. In keeping with the claim of the royal family that they are “Surya vansh” – descendants of the Sun, the whole structure faces east, and a stunning bejeweled image of the sun greets you at the entrance. Also of interest here is the remarkable collection of Rajput miniature paintings and the Sliver Gallery with its collection of the family silver including a wedding pavilion.
