What would the Ancient Greeks think of their country today? They surely never imagined that their temples would survive millennia, drawing even bigger crowds in the 21st century than they did in ancient times, or that the very idea of “Greek island” would become synonymous with paradise. They’d be astonished to learn that their humble Mediterranean diet became one of the most exalted cuisines in the world, a timeless testament to fresh ingredients and local flavors.

In September, Athens typically enjoys warm and sunny weather with average temperatures ranging from the high 60s to mid-80s Fahrenheit. The Cyclades islands experience similar conditions, with pleasant temperatures between the low 70s and low 80s, accompanied by refreshing sea breezes. Rain is rare during this time, making it an ideal period for outdoor activities and beach visits.

Of Greece’s thousands of islands, none is more glamorized than Santorini. Dramatic cliffs formed from a volcanic eruption are dotted with white-washed villages, where labyrinthine stairways always lead to a jaw-dropping vista. The island’s popularity means there is world-class cuisine to be enjoyed, even if it’s as simple as the catch of the day at a local taverna. However good the menu is, the most memorable part of dinner is likely to be the view of the sun setting into the caldera.

Largely an undiscovered island, with perhaps the most interesting coastline of any other island this size in the world. A volcanic island, Milos is known as the island of colors, mainly because of its spectacular, colorful rock formations. The island also has a fascinating history. The famous statue of Venus de Milo was discovered here in 1820, its early-Christian catacombs are older than Rome's and the island boasts of an 11,000-year mining history.

Maintaining a place for thousands of years is no easy task and, on the surface, Athens can feel like a city in shambles. But if you’re willing to embrace the chaos, then hipster neighborhoods and an underground art scene give Athens an up-and-coming vibe, despite being one of the oldest cities in the world. It’s a capital of contradictions, where sipping a craft cocktail in a trendy rooftop bar overlooking the ruins of the Acropolis is par for the course.
Drive back to the Milos port to catch your ferry with VIP class tickets back to Athens.

Why we love it for you: There are certain hotels which defy time and trends – and this is one of them. It put the Athens Riviera on the map in the 1960s and was the spot to which famous figures flocked to party, pose and paddle.
The Acropolis is the most important ancient site in the Western world. Crowned by the Parthenon, it stands sentinel over Athens, visible from almost everywhere within the city. Its monuments and sanctuaries of white Pentelic marble gleam in the midday sun and gradually take on a honey hue as the sun sinks, while at night they stand brilliantly illuminated above the city. A glimpse of this magnificent sight can not fail to exalt your spirit.
The Acropolis became a World Heritage-listed site in 1987. The Museum was founded to exhibit all the significant finds from the Sacred Rock and its foothills. It was designed by architect Bernard Tschumi with Michael Photiadis and inaugurated in the summer of 2009. The Museum hosts its collections across three levels, as well as in the archaeological excavation that lies at its foundations.
Please note that the walk up the Acropolis Hill is part of the experience of visiting this incredible ancient site. Consider the astounding number of people who have walked the same path through millennia. In fact, all the buildings you see on the Acropolis were built or rebuilt during the 500-300 B.C. As a result, the marble steps are very shiny and slick. Additionally, don’t forget to wear a pair of comfortable walking shoes and absolutely avoid wearing flip flops. Sunblock, sunglasses, and a hat are a must. Lastly, don’t forget to bring a water bottle and lots of energy!
