Maintaining a place for thousands of years is no easy task and, on the surface, Athens can feel like a city in shambles. But if you’re willing to embrace the chaos, then hipster neighborhoods and an underground art scene give Athens an up-and-coming vibe, despite being one of the oldest cities in the world. It’s a capital of contradictions, where sipping a craft cocktail in a trendy rooftop bar overlooking the ruins of the Acropolis is par for the course.
Dating back to 1930 and located in the centre of Athens, the 5-star King George, a Luxury Collection Hotel, represents the absolute essence of a fascinating, luxurious boutique hotel. The Acropolis is the most important ancient site in the Western world. Crowned by the Parthenon, it stands sentinel over Athens, visible from almost everywhere within the city. Its monuments and sanctuaries of white Pentelic marble gleam in the midday sun and gradually take on a honey hue as the sun sinks, while at night they stand brilliantly illuminated above the city. A glimpse of this magnificent sight can not fail to exalt your spirit.
The Acropolis became a World Heritage-listed site in 1987. The Museum was founded to exhibit all the significant finds from the Sacred Rock and its foothills. It was designed by architect Bernard Tschumi with Michael Photiadis and inaugurated in the summer of 2009. The Museum hosts its collections across three levels, as well as in the archaeological excavation that lies at its foundations.

Please note that the walk up the Acropolis Hill is part of the experience of visiting this incredible ancient site. Consider the astounding number of people who have walked the same path through millennia. In fact, all the buildings you see on the Acropolis were built or rebuilt during the 500-300 B.C. As a result, the marble steps are very shiny and slick. Additionally, don’t forget to wear a pair of comfortable walking shoes and absolutely avoid wearing flip flops. Sunblock, sunglasses, and a
hat are a must. Lastly, don’t forget to bring a water bottle and lots of energy!

For years, the Cycladic island has welcomed jet-setters, and anyone who likes to party past sunrise will adore Mykonos town. Stroll around the alluring main town chora, past sugar-cube-shaped buildings, their chalk-white walls accentuated by bright blue doors and shutters framed by colorful flowers. Delos, even though a small, rocky island in the center of the Aegean Sea, was considered as “the most sacred of all islands” in ancient Greek culture. According to mythology, Delos is the birthplace of Apollo, god of music, truth, and light, and his twin sister Artemis, goddess of hunting. The archaeological site on the island of Delos is the remains of a sanctuary to the gods Apollo and Artemis, and the city that developed around it. The on-site museum has one of the finest collections of ancient Greek sculpture, as well as displays showcasing numerous artifacts recovered from excavations around the island. These artifacts give an insight into the daily life of the ancient inhabitants of the island. Although the island was largely a religious center, it also had a thriving commercial port. An estimated 750,000 tons of merchandise passed through the port each year during the first century BC. Due to the significance and the authenticity of the site, Delos was placed on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1990.
After your visit of Delos, continue on to Rhenia for a swim in its stunning waters, and then head out to explore the beach on the south coast of Mykonos. This is a day of pure enjoyment under the Greek sun!
