The King’s Private Apartments
Delve into the intimate quarters of a former King. Immerse yourself in the opulence of his private apartments, witnessing the grandeur of his reign.
After his state apartments, a former King created a suite of rooms designed for more personal use, which opened onto the Marble Courtyard and the Royal Courtyard. Here he displayed his collections of artworks and paintings. A later King made many changes and extended the apartment to the upper floors, creating new rooms, work cabinets, dining rooms, libraries, scientific galleries, and laboratories. These apartments allowed the King to enjoy a certain amount of privacy. The space was also used by another King, who in turn adapted it to his own purposes.

Petit Trianon
Beyond the gardens of Versailles lies Trianon, and the Estate of Marie-Antoinette. With a different tour route each time, expect to discover the true gems of Versailles - everything from Louis XIV’s Grand Trianon to the English Gardens lovingly created for Marie-Antoinette.
In 1758, Louis XV decided to build a new palace in the middle of his gardens, which, by then, he had been working on for around ten years. He commissioned Ange-Jacques Gabriel, first architect to the King, to build a pavilion large enough for himself and some of his entourage to live in. With the Petit Trianon, Gabriel produced a blueprint for the neoclassical movement – a perfect example of the ‘Greek style’ that was taking Europe by storm at the time.
Completed by Ange-Jacques Gabriel in 1768, the new palace on the Trianon estate was named the Petit Trianon to distinguish it from the existing Marble Trianon, which then became known as the Grand Trianon. It was here, in April 1774, that Louis XV experienced the first symptoms of smallpox, which would lead to his death a few days later and usher in the reign of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette. The new King Louis XVI gave the Petit Trianon as a gift to his wife, who quickly made it her own and ordered an extensive redesign of the external areas.

The painter fell in love with the village of Giverny while looking out of a train window and decided to settle there and rearrange the estate into a source of inspiration for his paintings. He especially worked on his garden to create a floral masterpiece, with water, colours and reflection displays.

Today, discover the tragic history of WWII in Normandy and the landmark battles that took place there.

You will see the village Sainte-Mère-Eglise, famous for the hanging paratrooper on the church tower, commemorating the difficult D-Day battle after which the town was the very first to be liberated in France.

Come explore the remains of German artillery, bunkers, and bomb craters while your guide will recount the famous story of how American Rangers did what many considered to be impossible by scaling the cliffs and taking the battery on D-Day, as depicted in the 1962 Academy Award-winning film ‘The Longest Day.’

After lunch, your guide will take you to the beautiful Château Balleroy – a magnificent 17th-century castle whose architecture inspired Versailles.
While the castle is under renovation work for the roof and facade, interior rooms retain their luster, with beautiful works of art and objects collected by a prominent family.
The original architect François Mansart also created the chateau’s landscaping, with beds of boxwoods and a circular water feature. In the 19th century, the park was restored by landscapers Bournot and Chatelain who created an English garden in the natural and romantic style of the period.
In 1970, an individual acquired the chateau which was then fully restored and refurbished. After 50 years, it has just been sold to a friend of the family who intends to continue his work.

Today, explore the stunning castle of Mont Saint-Michel!
Today, depart for a private guided visit of the Mont St-Michel. Mont Saint-Michel is about a 90-minute drive from your hotel in Bayeux.
Park at Mont Saint-Michel's parking lot where you and your guide will take the short shuttle bus ride to the Mont. The shuttle is the only way to access the Mont, or by 45-minute walk.
The Mont was one of the first monuments to be classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it is today amongst the most iconic sites in France. Your guide will take you for a visit of the island and its abbey, built by Benedictine monks from the 10th century.
At a political and intellectual crossroads, the Abbey became one of the centers of medieval culture in Europe and was visited by a large number of pilgrims over the centuries, including several Kings of France and of England. This is one of France’s finest sites, which is not to be missed!

You will begin by heading down the Champs-Elysées to take in this iconic avenue. You will then stop to discover Napoleon’s military career at Les Invalides, the most emblematic building in Paris related to Napoleon, which houses the French Army Museum, including an important Napoleonic section. Your private guide will take you around this magnificent building and conclude the visit in front of Napoleon’s tomb.
You will then proceed to Ile de la Cité and its narrow paved streets to see the Gothic and majestic Notre-Dame cathedral, still under construction. On the way, you will pass by the lovely district of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. This part of the Left Bank is known for its flourishing artistic culture, as many literary figures (Musset, Sand, Hemingway, etc.), artists (Monet, Degas, Giacometti, etc.), and philosophers (Voltaire, Sartre, Camus, etc.) lived there or were inspired by the neighborhood and its lovely cafés.
