Your Graduation Celebration in Paris

They say that France’s allure comes from its je ne sais quoi, but there’s a reason that it’s the most visited country in the world. The quoi, as it happens, is the unceasing power to surprise you. You could spend a lifetime in France and discover something new with every stroll: charming villages reside in the mountains, countryside, and by the sea. France was practically designed to celebrate La joie de vivre and Paris is, of course, the crown jewel.

Paris

With its belle époque architecture, centuries of history, and countless museums, it’s no wonder Paris has been the home to generations of artists, writers, and musicians. It’s easy to feel inspired while climbing the Eiffel Tower or wandering the Louvre, but the city’s true soul resides in its quotidian pleasures: a flaky croissant from the corner patisserie, discovering a quiet cobblestone street, drinking an apéritif along the Seine.

Aboard your private vintage mahogany boat, enjoy a unique view of the Seine River and its beautiful bridges from different angles. Pass under the Pont Alexandre III, a triumphant Art Nouveau masterpiece that links the Invalides to the Grand and Petit Palais. Ironically, the impressive Pont Neuf, which means “new bridge” is the oldest in Paris dating from 1607. Also admire Pont Marie, the second-oldest bridge in Paris which links the Ile-Saint-Louis with the right bank of the Seine.

Day 2: Introduction to Paris
🏛️
9AM - Private Orientation Tour of Paris

In the morning, meet your private guide and driver at your hotel and begin your orientation tour to discover the city!

Led by your private guide, you will make frequent stops, get acquainted with the city and soak in the special personality of each district. This tour is flexible based on your interests, and you may explore a particular neighborhood, or simply enjoy an overview.

We suggest driving across the Seine to admire the D'Orsay museum and the golden dome of the Invalides, or along the iconic Champs Elysees avenue. Your driver could then take you past the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe as you head to the authentic district of Montmartre.

End in Montmartre for a stop at the Sacre Coeur Basilica, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view over Paris. Walk through the narrow cobbled streets of this lovely village, which attracted many artists through the 19th and early 20th centuries, and still now exudes a unique bohemian atmosphere.

🧑‍🎨
Painters of Montmartre

Montmartre, Paris's artistic haven, has been home to numerous iconic painters who shaped the course of art history. Among them, two well-known painters found inspiration in its bohemian streets, shaping their early careers within this vibrant community. The area's unique charm and lively atmosphere also captivated a notable painter, who immortalized Montmartre's social life in his masterpiece "Bal du moulin de la Galette". Similarly, another famous painter documented the district's lively nightlife, notably through his work featuring the Moulin Rouge and its cabaret culture.

Even today, Montmartre retains its artistic soul, with Place du Tertre serving as a living tribute to its rich cultural heritage. Here, contemporary artists continue the tradition of painting en plein air, honoring the legacy of those who once roamed these streets and alleys. Through their work, the spirit of Montmartre as a hub of creativity and artistic innovation endures, making it a timeless reflection of Paris's enduring allure to artists worldwide.

You can wander around to watch artists painting, or browse the multitude of art galleries in the vicinity - Google Maps link here.

This is a recommendation only.

Morning at Leisure

Enjoy some time at leisure this morning before meeting your guide for today's adventure.

🚶‍♂️
3PM - Centre Pompidou & Le Marais

In the afternoon, meet your driver and private guide at your hotel for a one-way transfer to Le Marais (approximately 35 minutes). Once in Le Marais, continue on foot with your guide.

Start your tour with a guided visit of the trendy district of Le Marais. Stroll through its cobblestone streets, historic spots and quirky boutiques. Straddling the Paris Centre arrondissement, this district (with a village vibe) was built on marshland (‘marais’ in French), hence its name. Parisians and visitors alike love to come here for a leisurely stroll, as it is a great place to spend time and/or go shopping. Discover the rich history and cultural tapestry woven into the very fabric of Le Marais!

You will then proceed to the reputed Centre Pompidou, well known for its high-tech architectural design. The unusual architecture attracts visitors worldwide and has as much to discuss of the exterior as the interior. This museum houses the largest modern art collection in Europe. Your guide will take you through the museum, explaining the significance of the major modern art movements through the 20th and 21st centuries.

🍷
Wine bars and snacks

A few of our favorites are:

  • Freddy's: Boasting one of the city's best selections of wine by the glass paired with delicious tapas.
  • Early June: An in-the-know wine bar for locals featuring traveling chefs.
  • Septime La Cave: Located just around the corner from one of the best contemporary French restaurants in Paris, this is hip younger sibling!
  • Frenchie Bar à Vins: If you want a taste of Gregory Marchand’s cooking without the challenge of scoring a reservation at Frenchie, this sister wine bar is a great option... although it can get a little chaotic, cramped, and loud here!
  • Breizh Café: (1 Rue del'Odeon) For some of the best crêpes, go to one of the few locations around Paris. Traditionalists love the a complète (ham, cheese, egg), while more adventurous eaters can look to the daily and seasonal specials such as sea scallops and smoked duck breast. Dessert crêpes offer a few Japanese touches like ginger and yuzu alongside classic constructions with apples and ice cream.
  • Bar Hemingway: A nod to a bygone era when the space at the Ritz Paris served as the watering hole of a certain American writer, with leather armchairs, sepia photos & a honed cocktail menu.
  • Le Petit Vendôme: If you're looking for a quick and classic franch baguette sandwich, rub elbows with local businessmen on lunch breaks at this colorful and unpretentious bistro whipping up regional classics, sandwiches & daily specials.
  • Chez Alain Maim Maim: A no-frills sandwich shop offers simple, yet savory bites with upmarket ingredients. Don't be surprised if there's a wait!

The rest of the evening has been left for you to relax and explore.

Shopping Suggestions

Why not do some shopping? You may enjoy the following suggestions:

🛍️
Passages Couverts Parisiens

Largely dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries, the covered passages of Paris were constructed to serve as shopping arcades filled with bookstores, independent boutiques, and eateries. They are great for wandering through and finding hidden gems! A few of our favorites are:

  • Galerie Vivienne Paris is the most luxurious one! Constructed in the 1820s near the Palais Royal in Paris' 2nd arrondissement, Galerie Vivienne stands out as one of Paris' most exquisite Covered Passages, celebrated for the sophistication of its shops. If you have the opportunity to explore just one Parisian gallery, this is the one - Google Maps link here.
  • Passage du Grand Cerf Paris is a hidden gem! Built in 1825 on the site of the Hôtel du Grand Cerf (where it took its name), the interior is home to many artisan shops and high-quality jewelry boutiques - Google Maps link here
  • Passage Jouffroy is one of my personal favorites for the artwork! There are some wonderful artists with shops there, and outlets that specialize in photography and Indian imported stamps; it's worth a visit - Google Maps link here.
  • Passage Verdeau is great for stamps and antiques! There are also some rare books to be found. This passage is very close to Passage Jouffroy - Google Maps link here.
🍫
Chocolatiers in Paris

Paris is a haven for chocolate fans, offering plenty of options ranging from historic to trendy, traditional to fine cuisine! Here are a few of our favorite chocolatiers to buy chocolate from in Paris:

  • À La Mère de Famille, established in 1761, is Paris' most ancient chocolatier. Yet, it's not solely its storied past that draws visitors. Step past its vintage facade to discover a confectionary paradise that can turn anyone into a giddy sugar enthusiast, featuring delights such as pralines, mini chocolate oranges, and almond truffles - Google Maps link here.
  • Patrick Roger is a veritable artist and chocolatier, producing subtle and surprising creations. This master chocolate maker likes to surprise and constantly reinvent his creative world. Working chocolate like raw material, Patrick Roger is also well-known for his monumental sculptures, which are fascinating and deliciously gourmet in equal measure - Google Maps link here.
  • La Maison du Chocolat, launched in 1977, has become a favorite among chocolate aficionados. Pioneering the concept, its flagship store on rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, across from Salle Pleyel, was among the first in Paris to specialize solely in chocolate - Google Maps link here.
  • Hugo & Victor is among the best chocolatiers in Paris. Famed for their spheres filled with salted caramel, tangerine, passion, pear, and hazelnut-vanilla praline, they have opened shops in Tokyo and Dubai - Google Maps link here.
  • Alain Ducasse, nestled in Paris's Bastille area, is a former garage-turned cacao wonderland, that tempts with its chocolate bars, candied nuts, caramel mousses, snack bars, and truffles with crispy bits. The inviting display alone is worth lingering over for hours - Google Maps link here.
🥐
Bakeries in Paris

When in Paris, going to your local patisserie is a must! Here are a few of our favorite bakeries in Paris:

  • Boulangerie Poilâne: In 1923, the original Poilâne bakery opened its doors and has been known for their traditional country bread ever since. Nowadays, their miche bread, a sourdough wheel known as pain de campagne or country bread, is stocked in various establishments such as supermarkets, specialty stores, and restaurants, making up approximately 3% of all bread sales in Paris as of 2012. Apart from their signature loaf, the bakery also offers a selection of delightful breakfast pastries, specialty breads, and exquisite croissants.
  • La Maison d’Isabelle: It is here that the all-butter croissants that won the top prize for the best croissants in Paris and the surrounding region in 2018.
  • Pâtisserie Blé Sucré: This bakery is renowned for its perfectly flaky and buttery croissants that are freshly baked every morning.
  • Maison Georges Larnicol: A patisserie that has been around since 1993, known for its decadent pastries and croissants.
  • Maison Mulot: A pastry shop that has been a fixture in the St. Germain neighborhood for over 30 years, famous for their delicate and crispy croissants.
