Croatia

Game of Thrones helped to put Croatia on the tourist map, but savvy travelers have been visiting this Balkan gem for years. A capital city's museums and restaurants rival those in Paris or London, but the underlying spirit is a refreshing change from its Western European neighbors. Outside of the city, Croatia is one of the most biodiverse countries in Europe. Take your pick from limestone caverns, technicolor lakes, and the paradisal Adriatic islands.

Check into your hotel and settle in. The afternoon is yours to explore the city.

Day 3: Exploring Split

The second-largest city in Croatia (after its capital Zagreb), Split sprawls along a peninsula, jutting dramatically into the Adriatic. As with the country’s other waterfront towns, picturesque beaches abound, but Split stands apart for its fortress-like Diocletian’s Palace, an ancient complex built in the 4th century AD. Split is easily accessible from the Croatian Islands and a good jumping off point for exploring by boat.

🚶‍♀️
Private Guided tour of Split

Start your morning by exploring Split. This unique 1700-year-old town features a living monument of the Diocletian’s Palace, included in the UNESCO’s World Heritage list. A walk with your guide reveals the layers of history on every step and every magnificent landmark.

The majestic square of Peristil rises above the mysterious Substructures of the Palace; pretty Venetian palazzi encircle lively squares, while the colorful green market and a relaxing waterfront promenade create a cozy living room for the locals... Then transfer to the historic Trogir.

Set within mediaeval walls, the old town boasts well-preserved Romanesque and Renaissance buildings, which earned it a UNESCO World Heritage status. Wander around the labyrinth of cobblestone streets to the lovely waterfront promenade and admire its imposing landmarks.

Day 5: Day at Leisure in Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik anchors the southernmost region of the Croatian coast and lies just a stone’s throw from the border with Montenegro. The medieval Old City, surrounded by its famous fortified walls, stands at its center, and nearby beaches offer pristine Adriatic waters and gentle tides.

🎭
Things to do

If you have some time at leisure, why not try the following:

  • Dubrovnik walls: Walk around the ancient walls of the capital. One of our favorite spots to watch the sunset & a hike with a view over the adriatic is on top of the Dubrava observation point. We recommend combining this experience with dinner at a restaurant with a view.
  • Kayaking: If you are looking for a tour to do on your own we recommend kayaking. You can hire kayaks from the main port and take them all around Lokrum island (a few hours excursion).
  • Ferry touring: There is a public ferry running from the old town as well that you might enjoy!

Recommended by Scenset, no reservations have been made.

If you would like to plan an organized activity for the day, you might enjoy a half day of exploring the Elafini archipelago.

Recommendation: Private Half Day Sailing at Elafiti islands

After a short transfer to the port, meet your skipper for a private motorboat tour of the Elafiti Islands. This breathtaking archipelago of thirteen islands is blessed with lush woodland and white rocky outcrops that enhance the deep blues and greens of the Adriatic. Cruise around the isles' many coves, bays, beaches, and authentic fishing villages while sunbathing and swimming in crystal-clear waters.

Day 6: Exploring Dubrovnik
🚶‍♀️
Walking Tour of Dubrovnik

Famed for its sheer beauty, glorious history of a one-time republic and majestic ramparts, Dubrovnik righteously bears the title of the “Pearl of the Adriatic”. Admire famous landmarks that make it an open-air museum and a UNESCO site. Quaint Franciscan monastery hides Europe’s oldest pharmacy; Rector’s Palace honours the mighty dukes of Dubrovnik and the baroque Church of St Blaise celebrates the town’s patron-saint. No visit to Dubrovnik would be complete without a walk around the city walls, one of the best-preserved ramparts in the Mediterranean. The uninterrupted flow of walls, almost 2 km in length, offers a glance of the old town from a completely different angle and spectacular views of the shimmering Adriatic.
