This isn’t a different planet, although no one would blame you for believing that since the landscapes of northern Chile’s Atacama Desert look like nothing from this world. Martian-red mountains and lunar salt flats dominate the arid terrain, where life thrives despite the extreme conditions (just look at ancestral settlements or grazing flamingos). But you’ll truly feel in the cosmos come nighttime when the sky lights up with far-off stars and galaxies.
Arrival at your luxury lodge, surrounded by spectacular rock formations. After settling into your accommodations, relax at leisure as you recuperate from your journey by the pool. It is recommended to indulge in some rejuvenating spa treatments.
San Pedro de Atacama boasts some of the world’s clearest skies and is, therefore, one of the best places to practice astronomy. For that reason, in 2008 Explora inaugurated their own observatory, which has become one of the best private Chilean observatories. Its dome houses a potent and advanced optics telescope, the Meade 16” f/10 LX200R Advanced RD, and a main mirror of 40 cm in diameter with extraordinary resolution and sharpness.
Explora Atacama is a lodge built for linking man to temporary space- present and past- and the mysteries of nature. Explora is located in the Ayllu de Larache (initially a kin-based community of the ancient Aymara people), near the village of San Pedro de Atacama. The 17-hectare (42-acre) grounds comprise 20 indigenous parcels, some with timeworn pathways and buildings that explora is committed to preserving out of a profound respect for the area’s scenset inhabitants.

The capital of Chile, Santiago, is a bursting city tucked away in a valley surrounded by the Andean foothills. Founded in 1541, Santiago is now a thriving metropolis dotted with fine eateries and top-class hotels. It is the only city in the world that offers skiing high up in the majestic Andes, followed a mere 90 minutes later by walks on the beach and surfing in the Pacific Ocean.
From the airport, commence your half-day exploration of Santiago where it all began on Santa Lucía Hill. It was here that a conquistador planted the Spanish flag in 1541 and the hill went on to play a pivotal role in the city’s history, making it the ideal place to discuss key historical moments and offer an introduction to Chilean society.
You'll then focus on Santiago’s expansion during the period of the New Republic with a walk around the colorful Barrio Yungay. Yungay has a long history going back to the 1830s, the second area of Santiago to be urbanized. It is home to beautiful old buildings from that period and is today strongly linked to culture and the arts. It is also of great architectural interest, with several different types of dwelling, from the gran patronal houses to cités. Among its highlights are the monument to the Roto Chileno and the French Barber Shop, opened in 1968 by three French master hairdressers who attended the staff of the French consulate and residents of the neighborhood.

Torres del Paine National Park was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1978 and is located within Chilean Patagonia, 150km to the north of Puerto Natales. The park consists of 242,000 hectares (the size of Luxembourg) and is renowned for the structure of its mountains, glaciers and lakes and the wide variety of its flora and fauna. It is considered by many to be the most beautiful park in the world.
Emerging beside craggy mountains and the glistening Lake Sarmiento in Torres del Paine National Park, the Tierra Patagonia hotel weaves itself into the landscape with subtle style, blending into the magnificence of the region. Here in this untamed part of the world, the perfect spot for an adventure vacation, what you see at our Patagonia adventure spa hotel is emerald lakes, fantastic mountain ranges and abundant wildlife.

At Tierra Patagonia, the Andes mountains are your playground. Below are a few suggested activities, but you may read more about what's on offer here.
From the hotel, head towards Sierra Baguales; which is to the northeast of the park near the Argentine border. The landscape here is completely different from the Paine Massif and the geology is impressive.
You will walk along the banks of the Baguales River, looking for fossils and enjoying the remoteness and views of this almost completely unexplored valley. At the end of the walk, a driver will be waiting to return you to the hotel.
Glacier Grey is probably one of the most well-known glaciers in Chile and is a popular glacier to visit while on vacation to Torres del Paine. Sailing on Lake Grey is a great way to get up close to the large icebergs which sometimes accumulate in the lake.
This excursion takes you through the Torres del Paine National Park to the western area, with a full overview of the main sites of interest. You’ll be amazed by the monolithic, unforgiving outline of the Paine Massif’s distinctive ‘horns’, just as jaw-dropping up close as you would imagine. The Macizo del Paine, as it’s known in Spanish, is made of granite, which playfully reflects the constantly-changing Patagonian sunlight and nearby waters. Be sure to have your camera to hand, as you won’t want to miss a single shot of this amazing place.
Afterwards, you’ll pass through Nothofagus woodland to reach the beach on Grey Lake, where you can spot large ice floes floating in the water. Here we board the catamaran and sail out towards Glacier Grey, surrounded by the impressive peaks of the Paine mountain range. You’ll be awestruck by the 19 kilometer-long ice formation, and even more amazed to find that there is an island in the middle of the glacier!
Lunch will be at the Hotel Lago Grey restaurant while enjoying incredible panoramic views of the Massif, and then continue to the hotel passing through several lookout points.
