In January, eastern Australia typically experiences summer weather. This means warm to hot temperatures with some regions experiencing high humidity. Coastal areas, such as Sydney and Brisbane, may have average high temperatures ranging from 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F). Inland areas, especially in the northern parts of New South Wales and Queensland, can experience higher temperatures, occasionally exceeding 35°C (95°F) or more.
This period of time is considered the ‘green’ season which runs from November to April with the heaviest rainfalls usually in January to March, so a rain jacket is recommended!
Unless you are an Australian citizen, you will need a valid Australian visa to enter the country. All other passport holders, regardless of age, must apply for a visa before leaving home. You can apply for a range of Australian visa types, including tourist visas and working holiday visas, at your nearest Australian Embassy or Consulate.
You can only apply for the Electronic Travel Authority visa (subclass 601) through the Australian ETA app. A step-by-step guide on how to apply is located here.

In the tropics, lightweight casual clothing is suitable at all venues, all year round. In the southern temperate regions, layers are the best solution for warm days and cool nights, and smart casual clothing is the norm almost everywhere. The key is to pack for varied climates when traveling to different regions of Australia. It will likely be much warmer in Sydney, Melbourne, and the Whitsundays than on Kangaroo Island for example.

Tipping in Australia is entirely discretionary and is offered in appreciation of good service. Local incomes are subject to minimum wage requirements set by the Government and as such, employees do not depend on gratuities for their income, nor are service charges routinely added to hotel or restaurant accounts.
In keeping with the relaxed local lifestyle, service styles are often more casual than in many other countries. You should not feel obliged to tip tour guides, waiters or concierge, it is however appropriate and appreciated where the service has been exceptional. The following is therefore only a guide for suggested tipping amounts for various services and in recognition of excellent service:
RESTAURANTS, CAFES AND BARS
Please note some restaurants may apply a compulsory surcharge on Sundays, public holidays or for larger groups.
TAXIS
HOTELS
LODGES
TOUR GUIDES
Please note: Some employees are forbidden from accepting gratuities for example casino dealers, security guards and other positions of authority.
The beaches and waters of tropical Australia are a significant part of the natural attraction of these regions. They are also home to several species of marine stingers, including the potentially deadly ‘Box Jellyfish’ (also referred to as Stingers or Sea Wasps) and the ‘Irukandji Jellyfish’. While these creatures do not pose a major threat, it is important to be aware of their potential danger and the means of minimizing the risks associated with them.
Caution should be exercised when entering tropical waters (north of Bundaberg in Queensland and Broome in Western Australia and all of the Northern Territory), particularly during “stinger season” (end October through to early May). Precautions should include:
If stung, seek urgent medical assistance and wash the sting thoroughly with household vinegar (provided on most affected beaches). Victims should be monitored for up to 45 mins out of the water for any adverse reactions.

Please be advised that today is Australia Day and most stores and shops will be closed in celebration. It's an exciting time to be in Australia!
Today you will be met at your accommodation by your private guide and vehicle for a tour to the Yarra Valley. Nestled among many of Victoria’s best loved mountain ranges is the quiet, sprawling Yarra Valley region.
The short drive to the Yarra Valley is a great chance to sit back and get to know your host in a luxury touring vehicle while you enjoy the beautiful countryside scenery. The Yarra Valley region is nestled among many of Victoria's best-loved mountain ranges and is the number one wine-touring region in Victoria. This region is home to a number of talented local winemakers and well-established vineyards.
Start your day by embarking on a superior winemaker experience at the well-renowned winery, Levantine Hill. Here you will be taken on a behind-the-scenes tour of the winery, hosted by a wine expert, and enjoy a private guided tasting in their barrel room. Have the opportunity to learn in-depth about the growing conditions of the region and its wine-making history. Head inside for a delicious gourmet lunch served with matched wines in their restaurant that overlooks the rolling hills and sprawling vineyards.
After lunch, continue sampling some of the region's best wines, starting with TarraWarra Estate, recognized as one of the top-tier wineries in the Yarra Valley. Enjoy a private guided wine tasting of their amazing wines, followed by a walk through their art gallery led by a curator. Take in the stunning architecture and views of this estate before continuing on your wine-tasting journey.
Your next stop is the historic Coombe estate where the architecture will take you back in time. Their beautifully restored motor house with historic clock tower is the home of operatic icon, Dame Nellie Melba. Enjoy a guided wine tasting and the option to take a glimpse into Melba’s extravagant life on a guided tour of Coombe cottage or the stunning 100-year-old gardens surrounded by 600m of Cyprus hedges. The last stop is Seville Estate. Enjoy a private tasting of their Estate wines in their cellar door set amongst a stunning native garden and high on the ridge of the Upper Yarra Valley overlooking their 50-year-old vineyard. Have the chance to meet the winemakers and hear about the long history of this vineyard where grapes have been growing since the 1970's.

The 74 islands that dot the Whitsunday Passage are the peaks of a coastal range submerged by the rising seas during the last ice age. Their steep peaks are largely still cloaked with pine forests and rainforests, their waterlines blessed with glorious sandy beaches and fringing coral reefs. Almost all are preserved as national parks (only 8 in the archipelago are inhabited with resort facilities), making their turquoise waters an idyllic cruising ground.
qualia is situated on the northernmost part of Hamilton Island, surrounded by the natural wonder of the Great Barrier Reef and with views across the Coral Sea and Whitsundays. An oasis of Australian style, qualia provides exceptional levels of award-winning luxury and intuitive, friendly service.

Hamilton Island is situated in the heart of the Whitsundays and is one of 74 tropical islands that lie between the Queensland Coast and the Great Barrier Reef. Over 80 per cent of Hamilton Island has been carefully preserved in its natural state so that visitors can continue to enjoy the pristine beauty of the island's fabulous beaches, unspoiled nature trails and secluded hideaways.
This full day tour visits two locations within Bait Reef, a Special Management Area with pristine coral structures, fantastic marine life, and small group numbers.
Travel two hours on a purpose built motor vessel in comfort and style. This high-speed 24m catamaran rarely takes more than 80 passengers ensuring a boutique and intimate experience on board and a less crowded environment out at the reef. Once there, you will have a minimum of 3.5 hours to snorkel, swim, and generally indulge in water fun before returning to the dock at Hamilton Island.
Hydraulically lowered stairs and a platform that rests just below water level makes access to the reef easy and comfortable. Diving directly off the vessel’s stern allows to visit moorings which are quieter, keeping with the intimate feel of this tour.
Snorkel equipment is provided with your tour today. A sumptuous buffet style lunch, plus morning and afternoon tea are served on board.
Please note that this is a small group experience.
